I built my own startup with a friend a decade ago But one thing led to another and I ended up joining a 50-person remote B2B SaaS company eventually This did not happen because of my concrete career plan Yet that first startup job changed my career trajectory Coming from a large 30,000+ employee company I didn’t know what to expect in a small SaaS/tech startup However, I instantly felt at home And I loved how I: - Improved the culture of the company - Saw the results of my work quickly - Became a part of hiring key leaders in the company - Literally knew everyone and their personal stories - Influenced the direction of the company - Learned and contributed to functional areas beyond engineering (including: marketing, sales, support, and more) - Played a key role in the exit of the company Due to high interest rates and the tight funding environment We are going through some rough times for SaaS/tech startups Despite that, I believe 100% that startups are our best opportunity to change the world And I am passionate to continue my journey in the startup world Do you prefer small or large companies? Why?

🎢 Wow, it’s been a wild ride in the tech world lately, hasn’t it?🎢 Big names are trimming down, and it’s tough to see so many brilliant folks having to say goodbye to teams they’ve grown with. But, here’s the silver lining – it’s actually an exciting time for us in the early stage startup world, especially those on offense. 💡Why, you ask? Let me break it down: 1. Talent Galore: The job market is suddenly flooded with amazing people who’ve got skills, experience, and maybe a few tricks up their sleeves that we haven’t even thought of. It’s like a talent buffet out there, and for a rapidly growing company, it’s time to feast 🍴 2. Fresh Perspectives: Bringing in people from different tech backgrounds can seriously shake things up – in a good way. We’re talking about new ideas, approaches, and maybe even some industry-changing solutions. Plus, these pros can help us dodge bullets we didn’t even know were coming; we founders must be ready for black swans 🦢 3. Building Our Tribe: For us at Sinatra, it’s not just about skills. It’s about finding folks who vibe with our mission to revolutionize the hospitality industry. We’re creating a place where everyone’s excited to come to work, share their genius, and help each other thrive 🛠️ So, what’s the game plan? We’re on the lookout for the best and brightest who’ve suddenly found themselves looking for their next adventure. If that’s you, or if you know someone who fits the bill, let’s chat. 💬 #hiringnow #phoenixaz #siliconvalley #engineeringjobs #startupjourney

Just had an insightful week connecting with 30+ founders, and let me tell you – the lessons were GOLDEN! Here are some pricey mistakes that popped up in startup journeys. 💡 1️⃣ Hiring Part-Time When You Want to Run Instead of Walk: Sometimes, sprinting is the need of the hour. Don't hold back on full-time roles when the pace demands it. Invest wisely in your team for the marathon ahead! 2️⃣ Glorifying Solopreneurship: Yes, you're a rockstar, but even rockstars need a band. The myth of doing it all alone can be costly. Build a supportive team; you'll go farther and have more fun! 3️⃣ Not Hiring a Product Manager Sooner: For Product companies, your product is the heart of your startup. Bring in a product manager early to shape, refine, and guide your creation. It's an investment in success! 4️⃣ Focusing on Tasks Instead of Systems: This has been told time and again and still needs to be told. Tasks are short-term; systems are long-term. Invest time in building robust systems, and watch efficiency skyrocket. It's not just about the what, but the how! What is something I missed? #StartupJourney

Q: What daring strategy involves acquiring a startup not just for its product, but primarily for its innovative team? How can it supercharge a company's capabilities? A: Acqui-hiring Acqui-hiring is like a talent gold rush. It’s a strategic play where you don’t just gain a new product line, but a whole team of top-tier innovators, supercharging your company’s capabilities overnight.

Hey LinkedIn fam 👋 We're a few weeks into our journey of starting a business, and we couldn't be happier with the love and support so many of you have shown us (you know who you are!) ❤️ Samantha, Daniel, and I will be sharing regular posts about our #startuplife experiences since it’s the first time for all of us! While we're still all shiny and new, I thought it’d be a good time to give my boy "Danos" a shout-out 📢 When you go into business with someone, I believe it should be with somebody you've previously worked with, deeply trust and respect, and have a bloody awesome time doing it with. That’s Dan! Many of you may not know this, but we’ve worked together in two previous roles. I first met Dan 7 years ago when he was hired as a Partnerships Manager to launch a new recruitment product into the Brisbane market aimed at startups. From our very first client meeting, we instantly clicked. Fortunately, Dan then joined our little startup team at affix in Brissy, and we spent 6 years working closely together, helping build engineering teams for companies of all sizes. Together, we've achieved a lot, with some memorable moments including: 🛠️ Helping connect founders to founding software engineers to bring an MVP to life 🚀 Successfully leading projects, scaling engineering teams with 20-30+ hires a year, even during periods of extreme talent shortages 📈 Building leadership suites from early-stage startup phase through to post-acquisition 🌟 Making intros through VC/PE connections that secured funding for startups, including one that combats child exploitation In short, we're passionate about the same things and have had a blast doing cool sh*t like this! We figured, why not continue doing these cool things—but for ourselves? 😎 In the words of Mike Lowrey, "We ride together. We die together. Bad boys for life." Okay, maybe not that extreme, but you get the sentiment 😂 We'll be regularly out and about, keen for plenty of caffeine and cold refreshments.🍻 Fynd is on a mission to help you hire the right folks and cultivate a thriving culture without ridiculous (and unnecessary) overheads. If you're interested in hearing how we can help your business, say g'day! 👋 📱 0422 366 018 📧 adam@fyndco.com.au

1% Better Everyday Hiring for a startup? This one is for #founders and #earlystage business owners and leaders. Always ask the candidate: What does your first week look like? What does your first month look like? If their eyes light up, they start describing responsibilities and discussing action points. green flag 💚 if they say, they'll have to see, get adjusted, settle in... unfortunately a red flag 🚩 Every minute, every penny counts when you're building a #venture from scratch. You need a hustler, a go-getter! Free game given to me by Joshua Tulloch @ The Generalist Co. One of the most hacky and smart founders I've met. Grateful to be working with him! #hiring #UK #b2b

“More money, more headcount, and more features won’t get you more success,” I recently came across this post from Pablo Srugo about having a lean team and I totally agree with him. It’s always better to: - Create a small team - Find a product-market fit - Launch an MVP - Take feedback At the early stages, nailing the product-market fit requires countless experiments, and experiments always lead to change. A small team is more adaptable to change. - change in features - change in messaging - change in USP Lesser people can swiftly adapt to these changes with less management and more hands-on work. Hiring too many people before achieving product-market fit often leads to layoffs and unnecessary complications. That's why I'm a firm advocate of lean teams - especially in early stage startups. What do you think? #hiring #earlystagestartup #workculture

I have FOUR open partnership roles at Engine! Here’s why I believe they're best-in-market job opportunities 📈 1️⃣ TAILWINDS Engine recently raised a Series C at a $2.1B valuation—one of the few companies to secure a higher valuation after fundraising in 2020/2021. 🤯 We've also unveiled a sleek new rebrand, launching flights and rental cars for an all-in-one travel platform. 2️⃣ NEW PROGRAM, ESTABLISHED COMPANY Founded in 2018, Engine not only navigated but grew during the COVID pandemic (yes, you read that right). Today, we're a dominant player in the market. Now, we're kicking off the partnerships team, which means (A) room to grow as the team scales and (B) opportunity for big impact 💪 3️⃣ WORLD CLASS TEAM We're on a mission to assemble the best partnership team in the industry. Everyone on the team will be an A-player. If that's you, we want you! 🫵 Here are the open roles: Director of Product Partnerships, Director of Group Partnerships, Partnership Manager, and Partner Marketing Manager.
