I am so happy to share with you the front cover just published on ChemSusChem by Chemistry Europe representing the most recent review of my group at the Università Ca' Foscari Venezia with GSSD Foundation on Reaction Pathways in (organic) Carbonates and Esters. Just few weeks before Prof Tundo passed away, we talked on the phone about a possible idea for the cover, he had a very clear idea on what he wanted the cover to be: a Janus face that envisions and analyses the dialkyl carbonate chemistry taking inspiration from chlorine chemistry (Chlorine tree) as well as from esters reactivity (Ingold book). In my opinion a brillant idea! #GreenChemistry #Dialkylcarbonates #Esters #OrganicChemistry #ChemSusChem

The global commercialisation of companies and technologies in the bioeconomy, using engineering and synthetic biology, are seeing rapid growth and advancement. However, the lack of related technical standards and metrics will likely cause major challenges. Hear from Professor Paul Freemont from Imperial College London on their report, drafted in collaboration with international stakeholders from academia, industry, and government, lays the groundwork for establishing open, voluntary standards for engineering biology. Paul is speaking on Day Two - check out the full agenda here: https://bit.ly/3yKoAPj #WBM24 #WorldBioMarkets #ImperialCollege #Bioeconomy #Biomanufacturing #IndustrialBiomanufacturing #EngineeringBiology #SynBio

I’ll be presenting at the Goldschmidt2024 conference in Chicago! My talk, titled "Investigating the Stability of Sulfurized Organic Carbon Using State-of-the-Art Synchrotron-Based Techniques," is scheduled for today at 10:30 AM (EDT) in Salon A1, Lower Level, at the Hilton Chicago. This research utilized advanced experimental and analytical techniques at the UK’s national synchrotron, the Diamond Light Source, to enhance our understanding of the reactivity/stability of sulfurized organic carbon, a crucial carbon sink. Abstract and session details below: Session: 6eO2 - Advanced Experimental and Analytical Techniques at Large-Scale Facilities for Geochemistry and Deep Planetary Interiors Studies Theme: Theme 06 - Frontiers in Analytical and Computational Techniques Abstract: https://lnkd.in/e_pwVhfP

Fresh from the oven! Have a look at this book about #electrochemistry for #biotechnology by our members Annemiek Ter Heijne, Tom Sleutels and Falk Harnisch.
Are you intereested in #biotechnology and ever wondered about the basics of #electrochemistry 🤔 ? This #textbook by Annemiek Ter Heijne from Wageningen University & Research, Tom Sleutels from Wetsus, European Centre of Excellence for Sustainable Water Technology & University of Groningen as well as myself from Helmholtz Centre for Environmental Research (UFZ) & Universität Leipzig that was 4 years in the making and is now fresh from the press can shed some light 👇 . It contains great illustrations by Rikke Linssen!

#DICPResearchNews Prof. WU Zhongshuai's group has developed a novel universal additive-containing "cocktail electrolyte" based on the synergistic cooperation of multi-component additives. This electrolyte enabled commercial LCO with high voltage (4.6 V) and ultra-fast charging (5 C) in a wide temperature range (-20 to 45 ℃). It also exhibited high applicability to high-Ni and Co-free cathodes. This study was published in Energy & Environmental Science. Learn it more: https://lnkd.in/g2E27J6B

🌍💧 Surprising Results in Groundwater Trends in Southwestern Europe! We analyzed historical data from 12,000+ wells across Portugal, Spain, France, and Italy. The surprising result? Groundwater levels aren't declining everywhere as we thought! 📉🌿 📍 Key insights: - Declines mainly in semi-arid areas with heavy agriculture and frequent droughts 🍇🌳🚜 - Temperate regions with large cities also affected 🏙️💧 The good news? Sustainable groundwater management is possible! Let's spread the word and protect our precious water resources! 💙🌱 This study was supported by OurMED, InTheMed PRIMA and Sustaincoast Project PRIMA Program funded projects. 🔻𝓝𝓮𝔀 𝓟𝓪𝓹𝓮𝓻 𝓐𝓵𝓮𝓻𝓽 🔻 💡🐱 𝐏𝐡𝐨𝐭𝐨𝐜𝐚𝐭𝐚𝐥𝐲𝐭𝐢𝐜 𝐃𝐞𝐠𝐫𝐚𝐝𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐨𝐟 𝐏𝐅𝐎𝐀 𝐢𝐧 𝐅𝐞-𝐦𝐨𝐝𝐢𝐟𝐢𝐞𝐝 𝐙𝐞𝐨𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐞𝐬💡 . 🔬 Exciting News! Our recent article, led by Dr. Jan-Max Arana Juve from Zongsu Wei's Lab at Aarhus University, has been published in the Applied Catalysis B: Environment and Energy journal. . 🔬 Our study dives deep into the challenge of removing #PFOA from water. The developed zeolite materials not only trap PFOA but also break it down through #photocatalysis. 💧 What's fascinating is how we've fine-tuned these materials to selectively target PFOA molecules, achieving impressive adsorption rates and defluorination efficiency. In just 4 hours, we've seen over 60% degradation! . Congrats to the team! . #WaterPollution #PFAS #Innovation #Research #Environment #Catalysis
