Madrid’s Stock Exchange, one of the city’s architectural symbols, recently played host to a key Santander Corporate & Investment Banking client event. Paradeplatz 8 has symbolized "Switzerland as a financial center” since 1876, when Alfred Escher, who commissioned the building, made it the headquarter of Schweizerische Kreditanstalt, the financial institution that would eventually become Credit Suisse. One year after answering the call to acquire and stabilize Credit Suisse, we’ve decided to keep all the firm’s historic buildings around Paradeplatz. They’re part of Credit Suisse’s history and an integral part of UBS’s future. We’ll be investing in these buildings for our clients, our people, and the city of Zurich. We plan to house several thousand colleagues in the new UBS campus around Paradeplatz and open up more areas on the ground floor of Paradeplatz 8 to the public. #shareUBS

Our results for 2023 are out! More and more customers are using our digital channels. In 2023, we saw a 6% increase in active web and app users and the number of sessions was up 14%. Meanwhile, with the integration of bpost bank, we are now offering physical access to over 900 branches. Our IT department played a vital role in making this integration a success. It was a pleasure to be invited by Finanz und Wirtschaft to speak at "Vision Bank - Vision Finanzplatz Schweiz" Forum on February 1st in Zurich. Two key messages that I shared with the audience are: 1. BNP Paribas in Switzerland with its over 1,300 employees is both a Swiss🇨🇭and a global 🌎 bank and as such our DNA is to serve Swiss clients - corporates, financial institutions, private individuals and entrepreneurs - both in Switzerland and globally in the 64 countries BNP Paribas is present in leveraging on our nearly 184,000 employees. 2. I believe that collaboration is key to foster innovation and economic growth and while the banks in Switzerland do and should compete, there are also many areas where we could work together as partners to promote and raise the attractiveness of the Swiss financial center. Last week's visit to Buenos Aires marked a significant milestone in strengthening ties between the UK and Latin America. Engaging with a diverse array of stakeholders, from government officials to industry leaders, the trip was a deep dive into the opportunities and challenges facing both regions. It was an opportunity to understand the evolving landscape of Argentina’s economy, to learn about the government’s plans and to connect with the Argentinian fintech industry. I connected with the Argentinian Fintech Association, joined by colleagues Alfredo Fierro MBE, Magdalena Luppi, María Verónica Boullon, and distinguished members, including Ignacio Plaza, president and managing partner of Drapery Cygnus VC, Mariano Francisco Biocca, Mario Lopez, VP and CEO at Poincenot tech.studio, Romina Simonelli, VP at Ualá, and Juliana Sheridan, regional legal manager at Mercado Pago. Our conversations covered not only the Argentine fintech sector's current state, but also the challenges of Open Banking in LATAC. Moreover, we touched upon the anticipation for Fintech Week 2024 and the 10th edition of the IFGS Summit, critical events that bring together the financial services and UK fintech ecosystems to explore industry new initiatives, and the sector's future. Additionally, my interaction with British subsidiaries across diverse sectors like Mining, Renewable Energy, Pharma, Education, Agritech, Infrastructure, and Financial Services was truly enlightening. This meeting offered a comprehensive overview of Argentina's political and economic landscape, fostering networking opportunities with British companies in Argentina and local agents of UK products. These discussions have been instrumental in understanding the nuances of doing business in Argentina and reinforcing the UK's commitment to fostering strong, mutually beneficial partnerships in the region. Colleagues that have worked with me for the last 10 years, especially when I was in Marketing, know that I have been saying this all along, with a slight twist. I’ve coached them not to start “I work for X. We are the biggest in Y. Therefore, you should want to do business with us.” I use the test-question: “Good for you. What’s in it for me?” Try again: “We are the biggest” - customer: “Good for you, but… How does that help me make money, save money, make my life easier?” Other variations: “We have a combined 100+ years doing this” “We have offices all over the country” “We have 50+% market share” You can still say all of these things - and they are good things - just try with the “What’s in it for me”: “We have a combined 100+ years experience doing this, so you can rest assured we’ll deliver what you need on time and at the right price” “We have offices all over the country to better serve our clients, so we can be on site quickly whenever you need us.” The Why is powerful! Your Why, your company’s Why, your customer’s Why. Don’t ever forget it.
