I agree with Michael Jackson: “Most accelerators (and startup studios) are rubbish” — with very few positive examples. These examples of good, bad and ugly are shared behind closed doors by many founders. I usually ask the following questions to find out: 1) what did you learn? 2) who did you meet? 3) did they actively enable your funding round? Usually funding is the most important reason for joining an accelerator program. Looking at MENA - can someone vote for the best accelerator they would recommend including the reasons. Sorry to hear that Intel Corporation is closing down Intel Ignite. It was a positive contributor to the early-stage deeptech ecosystem. Most accelerators (and startup studios) are rubbish, but I consistently heard good things about Ignite from companies that were part of it. Intel is making cuts everywhere, and Ignite wasn’t deemed essential. 😕 It’ll be missed. https://lnkd.in/eecCCcvx

Once a mighty instrument of the Cold War, the Apollo missions and the explosion in affordable personal computing, Intel has somehow lost its way. A mix of hubris — they were arrogant in dismissing the rise of Japan in semiconductor lithography and the Far East in other aspects of chip manufacturing as chronicled brilliantly in Chris Miller’s Chip War — and a failure to innovate. Likewise, Apple under Cook seems more interested in financial engineering, borrowing $17 billion for share buy backs that inflate market value but deflate investment in innovation, than in engineering new products and processes. Jobs would never have made that mistake, but the rise “financialisation” has created a dangerous disconnect between the world of banking and industry ( see Rana Foroohar’s revelatory Makers and Takers : How Wall Street destroyed Main Street) I know little about Ignite ( and many other things), but it seems the kind of agile, disruptive skunk works that, if not Intel, then the US economy urgently needs as it desperately spends hundreds of billions on rebuilding its semiconductor design and manufacturing capabilities as it attemots to catch up with SE Asia and China.

It was a great honor to host an Icons dinner with Shaun Maguire, a Partner at Sequoia Capital. Thanks so much Shaun for sharing your insights with us. This was an epic conversation and one of our best Icons dinners ever. Thanks also to Asset Abdualiyev and Asror Arabjanov for hosting us at Silkroad Innovation Hub and Alexander Kachaev from EffectiveSoft for sponsoring! Key takeaways from Shaun below: Growth-stage hardware and early-stage software are the two most attractive investment categories The best way to prevent war is to have strong militaries The biggest source of NVIDIA’s moat comes from their acquisition of Mellanox, which they turned into NVLink, enabling high bandwidth, low latency communication between GPUs Stablecoins will be the best way for AI agents to pay each other AI is the most transformative technology of the next decades, but we are in a bubble now You don’t learn if you don’t take risks Georgi Koreli Kelley Yuan Herman Brunborg Anirudh Reddy Mateo H. Pearls of Wisdom shared by Jensen Huang 1. 'Startups don't invest in Startups, startups don't partner with startups' 😎 2. 'Before a market exists, you still need early indicators of future success - E-I-O-F-S..I was using it all the time to give the company hope, hey we solve this problem, that problem, the markets didn't exist but they were important problems.. we want to be sustainable and the markets have to exist at some point.. that's how you solve the problem of investing into something that is very far away and having the conviction to stay on the road is to find as early as possible the indicators that you're doing the right things' ✊ 3. 'you want the company to be lazy about doing things that other people always do, can do. If somebody else can do it, let them do it. We should go select things that if we didn't do it, the world would fall apart. If I don't do this, it won't get done. That work is hard and that work is impactful, it gives you a sense of purpose' 4. 'ive cleaned more toilets than all of you combined 💩 🤢 .. you can't show me a task that is beneath me' 5. 'an organization of the past where there's a king 👑 (CEO), then you have the royal subjects/court, then you keep working your way down - eventually you have employees. Well the reason why it was designed that way is because they wanted their soldiers 💂♂️ to have as little information as possible because their fundamental purpose of the soldiers is to die in the field of battle. To die without asking questions. I only have 30,000 employees. I would like none of them to die. I would like them to question everything. So the way you organize in the past and the way you organize today is very different' 6. My personal favourite quote from Jensen : 'There are lot of things we don't control, Your job is to make a unique contribution, live a life of purpose, to do something that nobody else in the world would do or can do, to make a unique contribution so that in the event that after you're done, everybody says the world was better because you were here 😇 ' 7. 'I live my life kind of like this, I go forward 🎥 in time and I look backwards 👀 ..and the reason for that is that its easier, I would look backwards and kind of read my history..you figure out what is the end result that you are looking for and you work backwards to achieve it' 8. 'have a core belief, gut check it everyday, pursue it with all your might, pursue it for a very long time, surround yourself with people you love 😍 , and take them on that ride 🏎 ' ps : I learned a lot about generative AI, he broke it down into packets of jargon an ignoramus like me can finally grasp it 😂
