Last weekend, we were proud to again sponsor the 4th Annual National Association for Black Veterinarians (NABV) Conference in New Orleans – and to have three of our inspiring Banfield leaders share their stories with attendees in support of “Strengthening the Pipeline, Building a Legacy.” NABV’s goal is one we share at Banfield – to advocate for, support, and cultivate a more inclusive and diverse veterinary profession. Our POWER Diversity Resource Group works to help increase opportunities for our Black Associates, and like NABV, for future veterinary professionals by removing barriers and increasing access to veterinary medicine for Black students. This year, our Chief Medical Officer Dr. Alea Harrison joined MVH Chief Medical Officer Dr. Molly McAllister, DVM, MPH for a special presentation on “Navigating Leadership Opportunities: The Path to Chief Medical Officer.” Highlighting the need to increase representation of Black women in healthcare leadership roles, and how Banfield has made that possible, Dr. Harrison was a huge inspiration with her first session at NABV sharing her career path as a woman of color into leadership at Banfield. POWER co-leads Dr. Kim Riley and Dr. Consuela Byrd also shared on a panel how Banfield leads Equity, Inclusion & Diversity work, and along with fellow Banfield attendees at every level of leadership, represented the diverse career paths and growth opportunities we’ve developed in support of our BIPOC Associates. Bringing together our commitments to EI&D and to diversifying the veterinary pipeline, our partnership with NABV has become one of our favorite ways to build relationships with veterinary students, many of whom have been part of our student job program or are ambassadors for Banfield to their vet schools. Year after year, it’s wonderful to hear about their progress, tell their friends about our opportunities, and welcome more Black talent in support of purpose: A BETTER WORLD FOR PETS.
