I had the wonderful opportunity to speak with Authority Magazine about the job I’m most proud of: being a mother. My family brings me peace and gives me energy to bring my best to other areas of life, and it’s made me more driven and connected to a greater purpose. But it’s important to acknowledge it’s not always rainbows and butterflies. Becoming a mother wasn’t an easy process for me, and as many can relate, there’s always a delicate balance prioritizing quality time with our families, careers, and personal wellbeing. What continues to drive me every day is showing my girls – and young women everywhere – what’s possible. As I advocate for the veterinary profession – which is made up of nearly 70% women today and increasing yearly – and the future pipeline of women in #STEM, I realize there’s a huge opportunity for me and others to set an example, especially for young African American girls. This mindset is what drives me to continue to be the best version of myself at home and at work. I’m incredibly grateful to be part of purpose-driven organizations like Banfield Pet Hospital and Mars that advocate for work-life balance and supporting women in the workplace. As my girls get older and better understand the work that we do to create #ABetterWorldforPets, I’m so proud to share with them the impact we have on people, pets, and communities.
