The Lehigh Valley Humane Society has undergone massive transformations to our leadership, programs, and policies in the last half a decade that have radically re-shaped our organization. We were truly put to the test in 2023, with a staggering 34 percent surge in stray, abandoned, and surrendered animals, amounting to nearly 900 more animals in need compared to the previous year. In spite of this, we finished the year with an 81 percent live release rate for cats and a 91 percent live release rate for dogs, exceeding the no-kill benchmark of 90 percent. This is a 24 percent increase in our live release rate compared to 2021. We are frequently asked questions about being no kill, but rarely do we find that the community understands what the term means. To that end, we would like to offer insight on its definition, its implications, and what it takes to become a no kill shelter. Today, we would like to share a comprehensive look at our 2023 shelter statistics: our animal intakes, outcomes, and live release rate, as well as data on the services provided through our many programs. Though it's powerful, Why not stop using animal milk? Isn't this a better solution? why not be vegan and stop eating animal proteins? It's easily said and shouted but it's difficult because our taste buds are used to these as a ready to consume food to make us more convenient and more lazy in a race to run job timings. These are my personal thoughts. what are yours! Preachers do not practice that includes me too because we are biased so badly that we can't come out of this rut. A revolution only will bring in change. It's a good awareness program that's effective as a prelude to it.

In our recent research assessing more than 28,400 housing-related intakes and outcomes from 21 Human Animal Support Services Pilot Shelters, we found that these pets had a 95% chance of a live outcome (yay!) and that adoptions and transfers made up the vast majority of these live outcomes. One interesting takeaway from this data is that only about 4% of pets relinquished due to housing were returned to their owners. In our paper, now published in full at the link, below, we discuss the programmatic implications of this finding and suggest that, given the research that housing issues are the most cited reason for "involuntary relinquishment," prioritizing RTO-related programming specifically for this subset of animals may be a meaningful programmatic shift as shelters are identifying specific Intake-to-Placement strategies. The real stars behind the show! 🦆😺🐴🐔🐮 At Nineveh Ridge Care farm, we work so hard to make our service users have the best day as they possibly can, but we can't do what we do without our animals! Through learning animal care we find that it enables the service users to: - Learn about looking after themselves ( basics needs and importance of right food, health and cleanliness) - While working with our rescue animals it teaches empathy, patience, and understanding. As well as being able to relate their own anxieties to that of the animals. - For those who struggle with communication and or affection, talking to an animal rather than another human can be a first step. - And encourages group sessions in a less intense environment, allowing for gradual social interaction.
