SOCIAL FITNESS-THE BIGGEST PREDICTOR OF A HAPPY LIFE
Social fitness is the biggest predictor of a happy life Yesterday I had been winking at BBC Science Focus Magazine and my eyes stuck on an article of Social Fitness under the column Human Body. I have rarely come across such excellent writing on social fitness. Social fitness is indeed a crucial factor in leading a happy and fulfilling life. Just like physical fitness, it requires regular practice and attention to grow and maintain. Absolutely, social connections play a pivotal role in overall well-being. Research has consistently shown that having strong, supportive relationships can have profound effects on both physical and mental health. A balanced diet and exercise are important parts of staying healthy. But recent research shows that there’s another factor even more important for keeping us in good shape, both physically and mentally: our social connections. Of course, it isn’t just our physical health that suffers from lack of social connections. Other research shows that a beautiful romantic relationship leads to a sound mental health. It is also acknowledged that a good connection releases depression, mitigates stress and improves overall mental health. I learned many important issues from this article. In fact, we should all be thinking as much about social fitness as we do about physical fitness. The report suggests that group-based social connections are better than individual relationships for a sound cognitive health. The insightful idea I found there in report: Joining group activities – such as community prayer or working in a community garden or volunteering in a social activity can be an effective treatment for depression. Dr. Tegan Cruwys, an associate professor and clinical psychologist at the Australian National University found in a research that not only did joining a social group alleviate symptoms of depression but also reduce the risk of relapse. The feeling of connection to others and the wider world appears to be the active ingredient that makes social connection so good for our wellbeing.
