When Ben Browning was a child, he had a dream to grow up and become a banker. 🏦 “I knew I was going to be a banker in one form or another,” he says. “I even learned to do addition and subtraction with money, kneeling next to my parent’s bed with coins.” Ben’s great-grandfather, Frank M. Browning, founded Bank of Utah in Ogden in 1952. Now, banking has been in the Browning blood for over 70 years — and from counting coins as a child to now leading Bank of Utah as CEO, Ben continues to fuel the family legacy. From Ben’s first role with the bank in high school to where he is today, he quickly realized he had an innate desire to interact with people. His roles continued to shift (including working at the Orem branch on 800 N. while he was attending BYU), and he explored many aspects of banking. His passion for the industry grew, not unlike any good savings account should. “I really love banking,” Ben says. “Something my dad always told me is that banking is not about money. It’s about people. They are why we’ve been able to have the success we’ve had — it’s because of the people in Bank of Utah, from the employees to the customers to the communities we engage with.” Read more about Ben in the current issue of Utah Valley BusinessQ!
