I was just reading about this and it warms my heart that this is actually taking place. Children have such a positive impact on residents of senior housing facilities. Intergenerational housing is a concept that involves mixing seniors with younger generations, such as students, families, or children. Intergenerational housing can take various forms, such as co-living spaces, mentorship programs, or daycare centers. Intergenerational housing can benefit both seniors and younger residents, by creating opportunities for learning, friendship, and mutual support. Intergenerational housing can also promote diversity, inclusion, and civic engagement in the wider community. Thoughts? https://lnkd.in/eSXcH35Q

https://lnkd.in/eTSMbMCM This is so exciting! Love what JAX and Down East Family YMCA are doing for their employees and their community. Hopefully, this becomes the model for many other businesses across Maine. (Curtis Dow, great to see Cordjia Capital Projects involved in this project!) "Child Care is not a family issue, it is a business issue. It affects how we work, when we work & for many, why we work. Moving forward, employer-provided Child Care could also influence where we work." - Harvard Business Review

Good schools provide better educational outcomes, extracurricular opportunities, and overall development for children. Other aspects to consider include: -- Homes in neighborhoods with highly rated schools tend to have higher property values. The demand for properties in these areas remains consistently high, leading to better investment potential and increased home appreciation over time. Even buyers without school-aged children recognize the resale value benefit of being in a good school district. -- Good school districts often correlate with well-maintained, safe, and family-friendly neighborhoods. Families looking for a supportive and secure environment prefer these areas, believing that they foster a sense of community and stability, which is beneficial for raising children. -- Parents think about their children's future educational needs, including potential pathways to higher education. Living in a good school district from the start can simplify educational transitions and provide continuity, reducing the need for future relocations due to school changes. -- Schools with strong reputations often attract motivated families who value education, leading to a positive social environment for children. This can influence the peer groups that children form, contributing to a supportive and achievement-oriented social network. -- Highly rated school districts frequently have better resources and facilities, not only in schools but also in the surrounding community. These may include libraries, recreational centers, and educational programs, enhancing the overall living experience in the neighborhood. -- For some families, proximity to good schools may also be related to employment opportunities. Families might choose neighborhoods close to reputable schools that are also convenient for parents’ workplaces, balancing educational needs with commute times. In summary, the importance of specific schools or school districts in the home-buying decision process is driven by a combination of factors related to educational quality, property value, community safety, long-term planning, social environment, community resources, and practical considerations related to employment and commuting. These factors collectively influence the desirability of a neighborhood for potential home buyers. #KellerWilliamsPremier #BuyerAgent #BlueEyedRealtor #TheHomeToLove #ChoosingANeighborhood #NeighborhoodChoices #KatyHomes #SchoolDistricts #ROI #KatyRealtor #HoustonRealtors #LicensedToSell #ListingAgent#HomeBuying #ShoppingAndEntertainment #NeighborhoodAppeal Call or Text Me: (281) 685-9327 E-mail: HLango@kw.com

Advocating for Inclusive Public Spaces for Families at the Timberland Regional Library District 📚 Public libraries are essential community hubs, and we can make them even more welcoming by implementing Parent-Child Computer Workstations like this one seen at Henrico County Public Library’s Fairfield branch! Inspired by this Virginia public library’s innovative ‘Parent & Child Carrel,’ these workstations feature computers alongside safe play areas for young children, allowing parents to focus on tasks while their little ones stay engaged nearby. 🧑🧑🧒🧒 Imagine providing parents the flexibility to apply for jobs, study, or work, all while keeping their children safe in the same space. This approach ensures libraries remain accessible for everyone in our busy, modern world. ✨ #PublicLibraries #FamilySupport #CommunityInnovation #ParentChildWorkstations #InclusiveSpaces #TimberlandLibraries #WashingtonState #Inclusion #Access #TimberlandLibraries #TimberlandRegionalLibrary

Imagine this: You’re 16 years old, and for the third time this school year, you’re stepping onto a new campus. For the third time this year, you’re exposed to new faces, new rules, and a whirlwind of adjustments. You make it through the school day, and go home to a stranger’s house. New guardians. A new home. A whole new life. Take a moment and put yourself in their shoes. How would you navigate this? How would you prioritize your education? It’s hard to imagine. But for most students experiencing foster care – it’s their reality. It’s no surprise that in these circumstances, only 50% of youth experiencing foster care complete high school by age 18. When it comes to foster care and education – we are in a crisis. But together, we can provide the radical support and stability youth experiencing foster care need to realize their powerful potential, and believe in their ability to finish high school. They deserve to live out their dreams. Our Angel Alliance ensures every child experiencing foster care has the resources and stability they need to succeed academically. Their consistent investment means we can match a youth, whose education hangs in the balance, with a Dare to Dream® mentor over and over again. People need people. Together, we can dare to dream about what’s possible. When hundreds of individuals like you come together to invest $10/month, $25/month, $50/month – powerful and sustainable change becomes possible. Generational change becomes possible. YOU can have real ownership in that. 🌟 Exciting News & Reflections 🌟 Last year, I made a life-changing decision to leave a company that I thought I would be retiring with... As a new parent, the uncertainty was daunting, but today I can confidently say it was worth every moment of doubt. 🚀 Since taking that leap, I've been fortunate to help secure several impactful grants for my clients, including: -A $3.6 million, 3-year award to enhance services within the county jail. -An $8.4 million award focused on workforce development in South LA. -A $700K project to reimagine a critical database system supporting 1,000 people annually. The journey doesn't stop there. Now, I'm working with with a group of investors and partners to acquire a $2 million commercial property in South LA and realize a vision I had a few years ago of creating a community embassy--a place of refuge & services. Transitioning away from a regular paycheck was challenging, but these accomplishments have affirmed my capabilities, skills and experience in the workforce and economic development field. 🤝 Let's Connect & Collaborate 🤝 If you're interested in partnering or just want to learn more about our projects, visit us at www.LBCplus.org. Together, we can make a substantial impact! #CareerChange #WorkforceDevelopment #EconomicDevelopment #SocialImpact #NewBeginnings

With early years back in the news again today, I thought it was an opportune moment to publish my latest blog post: Rethinking Early Years Support: Can community-owned approaches help shape a better future? A recent report by The Centre of Young Lives and Child of the North underscores the urgent need for improved early years support in the UK. Early intervention can significantly reduce inequalities, yet one aspect seems overlooked: the potential of communities as key drivers of change. Asset Based Community Development (ABCD) is about leveraging the hidden strengths within communities - parents, local groups, community centres, faith organisations - to create environments where young children can thrive. Imagine integrating this approach with statutory early years services: we'd have a more holistic, sustainable system that empowers families, builds resilience, and reduces the strain on public services. 🙌 You can read it here: https://lnkd.in/eB3UBqYz #earlyyears #locgov #commissioning #abcd #childrenandfamilies

I've written an article for the New Community (Australia's only community development journal) about something very close to my heart – community kinders and the contribution they can make to society, well-beyond the education of children. The theme of this edition is ‘Small is Beautiful’ so it seemed a natural fit. Using a case study, my article shows that bringing a diverse group of people together to work on a common goal can strengthen community connections, foster community wellbeing and social cohesion. By giving families opportunities to be involved in decisions about their child’s education, and the running of the service, can both democratise the early childhood education space and encourage democratic habits. The case study also illustrates that operating a service based on the ideal of mutuality is complementary to the curriculum as it creates a learning environment for children rich with positive role modelling. This is topical because over the past 25 years there has been a seismic shift in Victoria’s early childhood education space away from independent, community kindergartens to a more centralised model of management.
