"You know to love is to be a whole, partial, a joint, a fracture, a heart, a bone. It is to bleed and heal. It is to be in the world, honest. It is to place someone next to your beating heart in the absolute darkness of your inner, and trust they will hold you close. To love is to trust, to trust is to have faith. How else are you meant to love?... Hmm... this is an emotional love story about two young blacks who found their selves living in a British country where everything they hoped to be turn out to be the opposite. From page one to the last page of this book is all about love and relationship between the two black artists ( he, as a photographer and she, as a dancer). Their friendship metamorphosed into a love relationship but at the end, it ends up with a break when she returns to Dublin. "It's one thing to be look at, and it's another to be seen"... This poetic lines from the book shed light on the life, terror and experience of a Black man living in a British Country, acknowledging tge fact that the way you are seen by everyone differs. As a black man trying to live in the South East London, it might surprise you to know how easy your life can be taken away from you. Open water cut across the themes of Love, racism, identity and trauma. like I said, it is a book about love , heartbreak and hope.
