An analysis of yet another masterpiece, The Lonely Londoners by Sam Selvon. The novel strengthened my belief that the use of fancy words and high vocabulary is not necessary. The story didn’t follow the regular grammatical format as the narration was based on the Caribbean dialect. Yet it was so convincing and became the bestseller of that time. The novel covers themes of deception and illusion. It imparts the philosophical knowledge that what we hear is not always true. #englishliterature #samselvon #languageandform #literaryanalysis #thelonelylondoners #deceptionandillusion #authorsandwriters #worldauthors #writterscommunity #writing #creativewriting #creativity #openlearn #openuniversity

Did you know that Sidney Sheldon had a successful film, Broadway, and TV writing career before he became a novelist at the age of 50? Did you know he won the trifecta of #Academy, #Emmy, and #Tony Awards? Well, I didn't. (https://lnkd.in/gVSNXJK8) I think, like me, most people who know of Sheldon know him as a #novelist. I would normally assume that a novelist as successful as Sheldon would have been writing novels their whole life. But the thing is, he had been writing his whole life, just not novels. I know of Sidney Sheldon as a wildly popular author among a class of English-educated Indians of my parents' generation. We had a few of his novels in our home #library when I was a kid, but I never read any (not because it was forbidden but because I was more into 'Children's Knowledge Bank' and inexpensive translated #Soviet books from #Mir, #Raduga, et al.). I did rifle through the pages of every book on our bookshelf. I recall reading passages from Sheldon's novels, including some a kid my age shouldn't have 😁 But what always fascinated me the most was the awesomely grand character of his novel's #titles! My favourites are: The Other Side of Midnight Rage of Angels Master of the Game If Tomorrow Comes Windmills of Gods The Sands of Time Are You Afraid of the Dark? If I ever write a novel, I will pray I get Sheldon's sense of titling. Anyway, that is all prologue. The point of this post is—look at the attached pic. See the format? Two books in one #paperback, each beginning from the opposite end, upside down. I haven't seen this format in a long time. It was somewhat common back then. Is it still around? If not, why not? PS. No, I'm not reading this book either; just rifling through and reading age-appropriate passages 😄 #shidneysheldon #books #novels #literature #AmericanLiterature #publishing #writing
