[NEW BLOG] "This year, ECRI and the Institute for Safe Medication Practices PSO celebrates our 15th anniversary as an AHRQ-listed Patient Safety Organization. Over this decade and a half, we have worked tirelessly to build and maintain the trust and reputation that confirms ECRI and ISMP’s deep roots in safety . In our 15 years as a PSO, we have collected close to 6.5 million safety events, including over 4.4 million adverse events (events that reached the patient and caused a degree of harm), 880,000 near misses (an adverse event was averted), and 1.2 million reports of unsafe conditions (events that could have led to patient harm). Behind those numbers are the stories of people: moms and dads, sons and daughters, friends and neighbors, who have been unintentionally harmed in our health systems." Patient safety is most definitely NOT the #MHRA number one priority 😡 The policy/Pregnancy Prevent Programme (PPP) which the MHRA created and implemented for Valproate & now Topiramate, since 2018 is causing both patient harm & death for those with epilepsy, including those in pregnancy and their unborn. The MHRA are breaching girls and women's reproductive human rights, breaking UK common law & putting unbelievable strain and serious ethical issues onto our healthcare professionals. Even when presented with data and facts, the MHRA refuse to act, stonewall anyone who challenges them, and tries to shut you down - I know from first hand experience! This policy is unsafe, and must be changed! So no, the MHRAs priority is not putting the living patient safety first. They are delivering systemic failures to all with epilepsy, failing our healthcare professionals, failing our NHS and are failing in their duty of care. They have blood on their hands in doing so 🩸✋️ Why am I posting about this? Because it directly impacts me, I have a rare form of epilepsy and must be on Valproate as it a critical life sustaining medication BUT in order to have this medication, I MUST be on birth control and MUST NOT become pregnant! This is NOT the MHRAs decision, these are mine to make, it's my body! Our voices, our rights, our lives count! 💜 #Valproate #SodiumValproate #Topiramate #Epilepsy #Epilepsyawareness #Epilepsywarriors #PatientCapacity #SUDEP #EpilepsyResearchInstitute #EpilepsyAction #EpilepsySociety #SUDEPAction #GOVUK #DepartmentofHealthandSocialCare #WorldPatientSafetyDay #seizure #NHS #Neurology #Neuroscience #Health #Medicines #Safety #HumanRights #UKLaw #Pregnancy #Legal #Pharmacology #UKRegulations #Ombudsman #UKPolicy #PatientSafety #WorldPurpleDay #WorldHealthOrganization #NICE #GoodMedicalCouncil #HSJPatientSafety #BritishMedicalAssociation #WesStreeting #HousesofParliament #UKHouseofLords #MP #Labour #LiberalDemocrats #GreenParty #Conversatives #Westminster #Minsters
