Tend to agree here. Baby Boomers span across a couple decades, it’s going to take time for this to work its way through. And it’s very true many boomers are planning to age in place for several more years. That said, there are a good amount of Boomer Mansions coming on the market of late making this an interesting debate. #boomers #realestate #homesale #luxuryhomesforsale #buy #sell #investmentproperty #wealthcreation #realtor

Don't Fear the Silver Tsunami! 🌊 Despite concerns of a sudden housing market shakeup, the reality is that baby boomers will move gradually over many years. Most prefer to age in place, and those who do move won't all do it at once. #SilverTsunami #HousingMarket #BabyBoomers Click Here to Read the Blog - https://lnkd.in/gRmtMgVU

Have you ever heard the term “Silver Tsunami” and wondered what it’s all about? If so, that might be because there’s been lot of talk about it online recently. Let’s dive into what it is and why it won’t drastically impact the housing market. What Does Silver Tsunami Mean? A recent article from HousingWire calls it: “. . . a colloquialism referring to aging Americans changing their housing arrangements to accommodate aging . . .” The thought is that as baby boomers grow older, a significant number will start downsizing their homes. Considering how large that generation is, if these moves happened in a big wave, it would affect the housing market by causing a significant uptick in the number of larger homes for sale. That influx of homes coming onto the market would impact the balance of supply and demand and more. The concept makes sense in theory, but will it happen? And if so, when?

There’s been lot of talk online recently about the “Silver Tsunami”. What is it and how will it impact the housing market? What Does Silver Tsunami Mean? The thought is that as baby boomers grow older, a significant number will start downsizing their homes. Considering how large that generation is, if these moves happened in a big wave, it would affect the housing market by causing a significant uptick in the number of larger homes for sale and in turn impact the balance of supply and demand and more. So should we be worried about this happening? Experts say no, a silver tsunami probably won't happen anytime soon. Many baby boomers don't want to move! Recent data from the AARP shows over half of the surveyed adults ages 65 and up plan to stay put and age in place in their current home rather than move. Now when you hear about a Silver Tsunami possibly shaking up the housing market, you don't have to be worried. Any impact from baby boomers moving will be gradual over many years. If you had any doubt that agism is alive and well, the headline on this story should dispel that notion. While the problem of boomers and millennials competing for the same limited pool of entry level housing stock is a real one, this headline writer seems to think, well…what? Baby boomers should all move to nursing homes? Just die? Live in the street? And before doing that, they should use their limited incomes to fix up their homes so millennials don’t have to put any sweat equity in their new purchases. #agism #housing
