As we closed down the store last night and ended Circle Week, I took a moment to huddle with my team and told them something I feel like we could all hear:
METRICS DO NOT DEFINE YOUR SUCCESS.
Yes, you read that right. We use metrics to learn how to bend behaviors or patterns, we study them to strategize scheduling and identify gaps, we use them to create goals we can measure and achieve. Metrics by themselves, with no other contributing factors do not define success.
This week our Drive Up wait time was red, there was more calls for fast service than Christmas week, we had team members extending daily to help meet our demand and it felt like there was no positive going to come out of it.
If we walked away from this week looking at metrics alone, we would feel defeated. But the truth is, I’m insanely proud of this team.
This week alone, I received more positive guest feedback than ever before about my team. We also exceeded sales all week long! My team showed up and showed out and provided for our guests. They did it in such a way that guests were grateful and patient, despite the way metrics may reflect. They brought forth new ideas and took so much initiative to keep it all “flowing” without taking away from the guest experience.
I’m so lucky to have the amazing Team Members that I do and they made this Circle Week one of the highlights of my Target career. ❤️🎯
METRICS DO NOT DEFINE YOUR SUCCESS.
Well done Alex, well deserved.
