There was a time, when each evening, I sat by the window with the quote printed out, asking myself a simple question: "Did I do anything today to make myself a better version of myself?" It was a self-reflection, a reminder to keep pushing forward even when the journey was a combination of trials, setbacks, potholes with a solid dash of doubt. All of us have days when it feels like nothing was accomplished, when we force ourselves to do bare minimum. I found this book on the street. The author’s last name sounded familiar but I had no idea what to expect. So far it has done a great job at explaining what makes the folks at the top so effective. And it starts with managing, drum roll please—Time. According to Drucker, common advice is list out your tasks and then do them, which sounds plausible and like it would work. Drucker says to instead start with how much Time you have. Don’t start by planning. Find out where your time goes then manage your time to cut back on the nonessential. Then consolidate your time in the largest possible units. Which makes a ton of sense given the hefty price of context switching. What I love about books like this is how finely written they are. It’s succinct. Every sentence serves a purpose and builds up for the next. Looking forward to sharing more. #effectiveexecutive #books #currentlyreading
