Our proposed addition to this historic David Adler North Shore estate references original features that were designed by Adler, but never actually executed when the home was constructed many decades ago. Careful historical research revealed a wealth of original drawings of the home, including proposals for the original west wing and library. Referencing the massing, scale, aesthetic, and detailing of these unrealized Adler-designed spaces, our design team reimagined how Adler would design a contemporary kitchen, breakfast room, family room, and mudroom. The proposed design extends the existing axes of the estate, creating symmetry and balance that are commensurate with the original primary rooms, while also improving the function and flow to elevate and transform the former service spaces. The result is a refreshed and seamless exterior and interior that truly enhances the original historic mansion.
