Trees on farms! We’re very grateful to be part of this Tree Council pilot scheme with Chichester District Council, investing in woodland that will encourage our soil health and biodiversity along with many other benefits. Lucy from our Farm Team features in this video to explain the importance of woodland to us in more detail 🌳 https://lnkd.in/ergkih39 #sustainablefarming #trees #agroforestry #biodiversioty #soilhealth #britishfarming #backbritishfarming #mondaymotivation

For hundreds of thousands of years we have used trees as a home, as protection and for nourishment. Through #agroforestry we can create a bridge with that ancestral #nature of ours, feel protected, protect our crops, our #animals and our #future. Imagine a new landscape, one that mitigates microclimates, that imbues the land with the capacity to respond positively to adverse weather events, that stops erosion and flooding, that sequesters #carbon, that provides a home for birds, insects and animals. We can bring productivity, #ecosystem services and beauty together, then why not? When farms will merge with #woodlands and #prairies, instead of #deserts and landslides, we will have already taken a big step. ph. Paulownia towers protect apple orchards and vegetable beds while farmers aerate untilled soil with the broadfork in preparation for new transplants.

Clearcutting is a harvesting and regeneration method. It is when an area of even-aged merchantable trees is harvested for commercial use and to provide an area an opportunity to regenerate quicker. Clearcutting mimics a natural clearing of an area, like a forest fire, landslide or disease, which provides an opportunity for seedlings that require full sunlight to grow. An area can be regenerated through natural regrowth or planting. #GoodNews posts #optimism: (source: Future Crunch): Family farm to become the biggest natural grassland in #England - https://lnkd.in/gX_ztJSW The #Pertwood Plain project will rewild a 2,800-acre family farm in #Wiltshire to bring back endangered species like #cuckoos, #grasshopperwarblers, and #turtledoves. #Pigs and #cattle will roam the property in low densities to recreate flower-rich #chalkgrassland, allowing the owners to cut costs on fertiliser and machinery.

Erosion is when soil becomes dirt. Healthy soil is full of life—nutrients, organisms, and structure that support growth. But when erosion takes over, it strips away this life, leaving behind barren dirt that can’t support plants or hold water. 💔 We believe in protecting and rebuilding our soil. Through practices like agroecology and food forestry, we prevent erosion by keeping the land covered with diverse plants, roots, and organic matter. When we care for the soil, we nurture life, improve water retention, and heal the earth. Let’s turn dirt back into thriving soil! 🌱 #StopErosion #HealthySoil #Agroecology #RegenerativeFarming #SoilHealth #ClimateAction #FoodForestry

People love trees. They love individual trees…There's a feeling that they're somewhat sentient and they have longevity so we form an attachment to them. But forestry is never about cutting an individual tree. Just like thinning young carrots in your garden so that the remaining carrots grow well, when we cut trees as part of sound forest management it is not a cause of deforestation nor degradation, but about the collective health of all the trees in the woods. 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝘄𝗼𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘀𝗲𝗮! Meet the 𝗔𝗙𝗥𝗜𝗖𝗔𝗡 𝗟𝗨𝗡𝗚𝗙𝗜𝗦𝗛 We are considered "living fossils"! You want to know why? This is because we have existed for over 400 million years with little change to our basic body plan. Do you know we are considered important in understanding the evolution of land vertebrates? And this is because we share some characteristics with early tetrapods. As our names suggests, we can breathe air using a specialized lung-like organ. During dry seasons, we can even burrow into mud and enter a state of estivation (similar to hibernation) for up to several years.🤯 We can even survive up to 80 years in the wild. P.S. Can you kill and eat this fish? P.P.S. Enjoying this series, Please give it a repost! I still remain the 𝗔𝗤𝗨𝗔 𝗤𝗨𝗘𝗘𝗡 and you can ask me anything about fish, I will try to answer. ----------------------------------------- I still offer a 𝗙𝗥𝗘𝗘 30-min consultation call where you can discuss starting or scaling up your fish farming business! #fishchronicles #fishcoach #sustainability #Aquaculture #blueeconomy

Sable Island Pollinators. Hoverflies busy at a rose bloom. Because of the yellow markings of many hoverfly species, some can be superficially similar in appearance to bees. Most feed on nectar and pollen and as suggested by their common name, they are often seen hovering over flowers. Hoverflies, also called flower flies or syrphids, are important pollinators of flowering plants worldwide – wild plants and agricultural crops - described as almost as important as pollinators as wild bees. 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝘄𝗼𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘀𝗲𝗮! Of course I am a fish, I may look dead at first glance Meet the 𝗟𝗶𝘃𝗶𝗻𝗴𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗻'𝘀 𝗖𝗶𝗰𝗵𝗹𝗶𝗱 I am native to Lake Malawi in East Africa. I was named after the explorer, David Livingstone but commonly called Livingston's cichlid. I am an ambush predator rather than an active hunter I often wait camouflaged near rocks or vegetation for my preys. This thanatosis or "playing dead" behavior adaptation of mine causes small fish to mistake me for dead/rotting matter and approach. Well what can I say, dinner is served 😋 The Locals named me "Kaligono" meaning "sleeper" in recognition of my ambush predatory tactic. Below is a clip of me in action. Would you like to see me perform someday? P.S. Enjoying this series? Give it a repost. P.S.S. It's the WEEKEND! Let's end our week with a WEEKEND! I still remain the 𝗔𝗤𝗨𝗔 𝗤𝗨𝗘𝗘𝗡 and you can ask me anything about fish, I will try to answer. ----------------------------------------- Meeting me for the first time? Hop on a 𝗙𝗥𝗘𝗘 30-min consultation call with me to discuss starting or scaling up your fish farming production! #fishchronicles #fishcoach #sustainability #Aquaculture #blueeconomy

Regenerative agriculture advocate and tech-driven strategist empowering sustainable land management and data-driven solutions for climate resilience and implementing Artificial Intelligence.
The incredible power of integrating trees into every land management plan. Where the trees are, the crops grow thicker and taller downwind resisting drought. It's an ecosystem baby. Treat it like one. Trees protect from drying winds. In the hottest part of the day, the stomata of the leaves close, and photosynthesis shuts down. Dappled sunlight can provide just enough cooling for the plants to continue growing during the hottest part of the day. Rows of trees a tractor width or two apart increase crop increase production in agroforestry systems. You can even use crop trees. The Savanna Institute is working to teach #Agroforesty, #AlleyCropping, #Silvopature #Windbreaks, and how to integrate trees in #RiparianAreas. #TreesAreCool
