Last week, Google dropped a bombshell: third-party cookies are sticking around. Yep, you heard that right. Curious how we ended up here? Our content wizard, Eden Pierson, breaks it all down. Dive in: https://lnkd.in/gee86mid Google's move to keep third-party cookies while rolling out a new user-choice experience is like mixing oil and water — fascinating but a bit of a mess. Following my previous post about how Google prioritizes Reddit, which often doesn't deliver much value, their latest move to "clean up" the web has sparked controversy. In their attempt to fight spam, they've unfairly hit many small, newer websites. Google estimates that their changes, introduced in February 2024, might impact the visibility of about 40% of the content on the web. Way to go, Google! I think that Google's solution is to penalize entire domains (mostly small ones) based on a few low-value pages, because obviously, if few pages are bad, the whole site must be terrible. This is a quick way for sure to hide content from the world, but is it right? To my personal opinion, Google is struggling to accurately figure out what content is valuable. Their "smart" algorithm seems outdated, using broad heuristics that impact small players. This is how I see it, I hope I am wrong 🤷♂️

80% Believe Google's March Core and Spam Updates Will Not Reduce Low-Quality Search Results A poll on X was conducted to ask SEOs whether the new Google March core and spam changes will'reduce unhelpful material from showing up in search results by 40%', as Google claims. Approximately 80% of the 1,385 votes were negative, indicating that they did not believe it would lower the amount of low-quality, useless information that appears in Google search results. https://lnkd.in/eztsm3NM

One of our competitors tried to spam and flag our Google Business Profile and they succeeded...with getting our account re-reviewed. Here's the kicker though... Now, 12 of our previous reviews that Google had flagged and then buried are now showing on our profile!!! WHOOPS! (Moral of the story: Don't be that guy/gal that plays dirty.) Thanks for the boost in rankings! #GBP #SearchEngineOptimization #GoogleMaps
