SUMMERTIME PAGE-TURNERS The book publishers traditionally release new blockbusters in time for your summer reading lists. I’m currently reading “The Women” by Kristin Hannah (included in this extensive list of 21 good reads); during my evening downtime & weekends (sometimes by the pool). If you’re in the habit of packing 3-4 books in your book-bag to take along on your next summer getaway — this list from Southern Living Magazine could create some inspiration! This is a very important reminder that teaches us to pursue sufficiency in a world of excess, calm in a world of anxiety, love in a world of hatred, happiness in a world of bitterness, and solidarity in a world of divisiveness. I agree Hal Garyn This reminds us of the importance of humility and realism. Let’s focus on what matters most! These are great thoughts to live by! #grateful #joy #priorities #lifeadvice

I have been posting bits of wisdom from the 2004 book by Larry Winget "Shut Up, Stop Whining, and Get a Life." I love the way he concludes this book. So, below, here is what he says in his closing. At the end of the day ... A magazine reporter asked Larry Winget, "At the end of the day, what really matters?" His response is a lesson in humility and realism: "Not much. Really, not much matters. At the end of the day if you smiled more than you frowned, laughed more than you cried, told your family and friends you love them, and had a pretty good time doing what you do for a living, then it was a good day. Go to bed and say thanks."* We do take ourselves far to seriously at times, and for most of us as long as we can say yes to what Larry Winget says here ... it was a good day. String enough of those together, and it turns out to be a good life. *from pg. 228

A way with words Many authors add to our lexicon and one such is Roald Dahl – writer of such great books as BFG, Matilda, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and James and the Giant Peach. Dahl famously invented words to stop his readers getting so bored they closed their books and watched TV. He gave us some great words such as splendiferous: something splendid and wonderful and marvellous and whoppsy-whiffling: something very, very crazy. Some of Dahl's other words include: Lickswishy: "A lickswishy taste or flavour is gloriously delicious". Phizz-whizzing: "If you like something or someone". Scrumdiddlyumptious: "Food that is utterly delicious". Flushbunking: "Makes no sense whatsoever". Gobblefunk: To "play around with [words] and invent new words or meanings". Some of his words have been added to the OED: https://lnkd.in/epTsjCDk
