Big news this morning: one word Ofsted ratings will be scrapped immediately. What are your thoughts on this? We support the idea that you cannot summarise everything into 1 word, but does this solve the multitude of issues trying to be addressed? How will we address: - The pressures on schools and particularly senior leadership teams - The ever dwindling budgets that these teams have to try and make work - The pressure on schools to have a positive Ofsted, meaning that worrying practices are used on the day to create the best ‘snapshot’ It will be very interesting to see what further changes are brought about and how these help both schools and parents/carers. #Ofsted #EHCP #School (Image description: bright green background with dark green squiggles in top right and bottom left corner. With the Ofsted consultation likely to be out this week, I’m hoping that: 1. There is more than one model for consultation - just putting one out would be a done deal and not real consultation. Minsters must not be railroaded into accepting one model if it isn’t right. 2. It bears no resemblance to the leaked version - 10 sections/5 poss judgements means 100,000 different combinations of judgements made across 2 days. 3. That the penny has dropped that inclusion is a design principle, not a box on a scorecard - the idea of assigning a score out of 5 alongside curriculum, behaviour etc is nonsensical 4. That there is evidence that Ofsted has listened to Association of School and College Leaders and others. The ASCL proposals on inspection is eminently sensible. A national standard a school meets or not with triggers for intervention in failing schools. Given Ofsted’s recent track record of “consultation” and institutional protection, I am not hopeful. But fingers crossed.

Earlier this year, Hanson Bridgett's land use team was part of an exciting project in Daly City, CA in which the Jefferson Union High School District (JUHSD) secured approvals to redevelop surplus property with 961 units market-rate housing, representing an innovative solution to help JUHSD pay for teachers' salaries and educational programs. The first phase was a ground-breaking development that provided JUHSD teachers with affordable housing, which was highlighted in a Good Morning America segment (https://lnkd.in/gfsTbmAz). The next phases of development are underway, with the school district issuing an RFQ for interested developers. The district has invited parties to submit their qualifications for long-term ground leases on one, two, three, or more sites, where such sites were approved for development as-of-right, for a capacity varying from a minimum of 127 units to a max of 400 units. Great morning at the Landmark Chambers Herbert Smith Freehills Seminar on the implications of the new NPPF on the living sector. The panel covered both the challenges ahead – not least, how do we ensure the delivery of consented homes – but also the clear prioritization of housing delivery demonstrated through stock based housing targets and opportunities like the introduction of the Grey Belt. Looking forward it was speculated that with increased housing targets the number of authorities facing 5 year housing land supply challenges is also likely to increase – with short term housing delivery driven speculative development and the tilted balance. Bringing these elements together, now is a great time for housing delivery!
