Corporate merchandise is often underappreciated and underutilised. Many may choose to ‘pocket the budget’ and move those funds elsewhere in the company believing that their own branded merchandise is unnecessary. Playing devils advocate merchandise can be a pitfall when used incorrectly and inversely can be a blessing you did not even know of. The goal here is to ensure that these items serve a purpose whether it be exposure by getting your name out there, or by serving as an identifier such as event organisers or VIPs. For successful merchandise you must also ensure that your quality matches or exceeds that of those who will be viewing it. If it’s a fund raiser you are likely able to get away with lower quality items as the events purpose is to raise money for a cause and if you are catering for a black-tie event the expectation on the merchandise will be of quality. #corporatemerch #merchandise #custommade #visibility

For BOTI Global Ltd. the #LApreviews have so far been a succes. Now, we look forward welcoming the US/Canadian retailers this coming week for another round before we can pack up an go back home. While both the April and September previews are a long stretch, without any doubt and with all respect for #hongkong and other venues, the LA previews seem more productive under the Californian sun due its length. Not always easy for suppliers who have to spend more time (and cost) in LA, but the return is we have more time for the customers. So if that is the investment we have to make to present a better proposition to our customer base ...well that is what we, toy suppliers, just have to do. And where some win, some others lose. As I have predicted several times #distoy is a dead end road and will likely not happen as 2025/2026. As much as #NYTF will never be the same again. The The Toy Association has finaly realised fighting an uphill battle against the inevitable, doesn't do any good, so a move to LA is now in the making. BUT it hurts their wallet so much. The Toy Association being a commercial driven institute, rather than a non-profit organisation is seeking for funds... For example if you want to book a hotel in El Segundo during the LA Preview in September, guess what...you have to book it through the TA.... that is a bold move from an organisation despising LA for such a long time. A TA focusing on making money first before caring about the industry is in principle wrong. As much as paying its CEO close to 1 mio USD a year is nothing but a disgrace. It is no surprise a new US Toy Association is in the making. And as always, very little is dull in our industry... Eventually, to scale your business, you will need to sell new products and buy them in bulk from suppliers.

Charity shops sales remain steady after 2023’s record growth but online channels provide boost: After record growth last year, charity shop sales remained steady in the first quarter of 2024, with like-for-like in-store income growing by 0.8%, according to data from the Charity Retail Association. During the same period in 2023, the average transaction value increased by 4.2%.

New King Charles III banknotes make charitable impact while cash usage rises in the UK. Recently launched King Charles III banknotes, with a face value of £78,430, have raised more than 11 times that amount for charity through a series of auctions, as reported by the BBC. This achievement coincides with interesting trends in cash usage across the United Kingdom. According to UK Finance, the number of people primarily using cash for day-to-day spending reached a four-year high during the cost of living crisis. Additionally, The Post Office has reported handling a record amount of cash in July, with transactions totalling £3.77 billion. The new banknotes, designed and printed by De La Rue, are co-circulating with the existing Queen Elizabeth banknotes. In line with guidance from the Royal Household, new polymer notes will only be printed to replace worn ones or to meet any overall increase in demand, minimising their environmental and financial impact. An auction organized by Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) recently raised over AED 81 million from the sale of exclusive license plates. The highlight of the event was the license plate BB55, which sold for a staggering AED 6.3 million. 🙃 To be honest, it’s hard for me to think of a less meaningful way to spend one’s hard-earned money and capital. I’m sure the auction’s purpose was charitable, and the funds will go toward a good cause. Hopefully, someone’s life will be positively impacted by this purchase. Still, I can’t stop reflecting on the amount spent. Approximately $1.7 million—or AED 6.3 million—is exactly the level of investment we need in Lifemart to bring daily joy to thousands of people in three additional neighborhoods in Dubai. This sum would provide work for about 60 employees across our stores and corporate office, create hundreds of jobs with our suppliers and partners, stimulate local business growth, and significantly improve the overall prosperity of the local economy and our community. Given the choice between our business model and the cost of a license plate, I would choose our business model every time. Perhaps you know the person who placed the second-highest bid at the auction but didn’t end up securing the plate. 😎 If so, please let them know I have a much more impactful proposal for their investment—one that promises to bring joy, opportunity, and a brighter future to countless people.
