International schools always have an extra member of the team; their city. Last night #paris put on a show. Instead of the usual stadium bound opening ceremony the entire city became the setting for the launch of the games. A city, a setting, in international education can be just as valuable. How do you use yours? International Olympic Committee – IOC Paris 2024 - Comité d'organisation des Jeux Olympiques et Paralympiques de 2024 #paris2024
It's one of the aspects that a school must have as a mindset, which, orherwise, is hard.
My husband and I took our younger two children to Beijing during the Olympics there. My goodness that city used its unique beauty and attractions to the fullest that summer. The excitement, welcome and appreciation for the city was something we were all struck by- even my youngest- only 11 at the time.

3moLove this take Barry Cooper. As we can see in Paris, some are potentially distinctly more advantaged than others. Shenzhen was a wonderful opportunity to engage with the environment given its climate. Penang was a bustling island UNESCO World Heritage site, full of jungles, trails and a melting pot of cuisine and art. We sometimes hear international schools building communities around themselves, but striking a balance and accessing the wonderful local resources you have access to can never be a bad idea. GREAT question....perhaps one that's worth exploring in the Leading Your International School Podcast with your good self!
