This should be a priority. If you don't look after your infrastructure, you can't expect to run a service.
Well said Shane - such a real shame. Kind regards Mark
This defies common sense. Wasting money on operating buildings that really need condemning - which would cost more to do anyway. New funding model needed, and I am sure the government know it. NHP cannot be the only route to replacing NHS hospitals that Trusts can no longer operate efficiently and safely. If we are headed to PFI or PPP let’s make sure we get it right this time. Lots of lessons learned from around the world, positives and negatives alike.
I’m sorry, Shane all that hard work and development of expectations - extremely hard to manage - I wish you and your team all best of luck.
So are we who support Hampshire Hospitals NHSFT
At least they allowed you to build a new car park…..
What a sad position to be in, it’s been known for decades of the infrastructure issues, backlog maintenance situation and the impending inability to have safe structures. Does make me reflect on whether the current bidding process for capital funding in the NHS is fit for purpose?
I feel so sorry for the hospitals and communities that were led up the garden path by the previous government. The money was never there at the scale required, as was evident to anyone who cared to study the small print. The current Secretary of State has, to his credit, come clean and made the hard decisions. He also appears to have extracted more money from HM Treasury than his hapless predecessors. But the country is still left with a very big problem of too many clapped out and overcrowded hospitals, and this is going to get worse as the population continues to grow and age. No easy answers here.
This is a candid reminder of why investing in safe, dignified healthcare environments must be a priority. Hearing about crumbling facilities and unsafe conditions at hospitals like St Helier and St Mary’s is devastating, not just for the patients relying on them, but for the staff working tirelessly in these challenging circumstances. Delays in funding escalate maintenance costs and also jeopardise the dignity and safety of care. It's crucial industry, government, and communities come together to prioritise action. Safe spaces are non-negotiable.

2moAs one of the brains behind the blueprint creating the Cambridge Biomedical Campus, you are, once again , spot on with your assessment. Best wishes Steve PS_ I only wish that the current government enlists your amazing talents to help them prevent repeating the mistakes of the past. ,
