Just imagine you were Mr. Smith! Today's schools in our community are very customer-service conscious. It comes together with a growing tuition bill. It is important to let parents and community members know about what's going on around the school, and create some semblance of noticed value as much as possible. At the same time, we rarely focus on our most valuable asset - our staff! Besides sharing pictures and graphics with our parent and community body, it's a great idea to create the same visual pride and value among our staff. One easy suggestion: Make a weekly newsletter (print or email) for staff, the same way that parents and community members receive one. Highlight an amazing thing you noticed in a classroom, and take turns going around the faculty and staff. Add "thank you" notes for maintenance and student activities, and upcoming events, and it's a quick effort that will have great dividends in staff and faculty pride and feeling recognition.

Are Our Schools Unwittingly Contributing to a Disconnect from Self? In today’s fast-paced world, many children are increasingly disconnected from their true selves. Schools, with their rigid schedules, uniform classrooms, and excessive focus on standardized testing, often deepen this disconnection without realizing it. Emotional disengagement, lack of personal space, and limited exposure to nature are just a few elements that prevent children from developing an authentic connection with their inner thoughts, emotions, and values. When children lose this connection, it manifests in ways we may not always recognize—depression, low self-esteem, compromised identity, and even physical health issues like chronic stress. The graphic below highlights how school environments, designed with good intentions, might inadvertently contribute to this growing disconnect. It’s time we reflect on how we can change this. To explore more about the paradox of disconnection and discover actionable ways physical and social school environments can help children reconnect with themselves, check out our new book "Building Minds: Designing Learning Spaces for Connection and Coherence". A Parent’s Safety Concerns and the Promise of STMs...something that I want everyone to understand . The transparent process of STMs is a MUST KNOW item. Let me explain How STMs Can Alleviate Parents' Safety Concerns I recently received a call from a dear friend who is increasingly apprehensive about sending her child to school due to safety concerns. Her worries are valid, and I completely understand where she's coming from. In our conversation, I couldn't help but wish that STMs were already a standard practice in schools. A robust STM system could help alleviate many of these fears. By building strong, trusting relationships between students and teachers, we can significantly reduce the chances of issues like child abuse. When students feel safe and connected to their teachers, the likelihood of them facing harm decreases drastically. STMs offer more than just academic benefits; they can also provide parents with peace of mind, knowing that their children are cared for and understood. A system that fosters open communication and trust can help dispel the fears that many parents have about their children's safety. I believe STMs could be a game-changer in addressing these concerns. If you’d like to learn more about this, please reach out for a copy of my book or to share your thoughts. STM: STUDENT TEACHER MEET is an Amazon Best seller now! Keeping with the back to school theme - below is an article from PBS kids for parents about school readiness. While many may think readiness is as easy as buying supplies📓📕📖, new shoes, and lots of hand sanitizer it is more than that. Parents & children may have anxiety about homework, new teachers, new routines, and so much more. Included in the article are a few checklists that can help lessen the stress or anxiety of going back to school! But, a new pair of shoes never hurt to celebrate back to school 🤗 https://lnkd.in/gzBhUDdD
