Kudos to the Board and Management of Ok Tedi Mining Limited for continuously declaring profits each year. OTML seems to be the only company in PNG that is bringing in much needed Foreign Currency from its exports of Copper, whilst all and Sundry are keeping their export proceeds overseas. In the Corporate world, Companies declare their profits for the previous year, in the first quarter each year, after accounts have been audited and approved. In Papua New Guinea, any entity that is owned by the Government seems to be declaring interim dividends and dividends without the end of financial year audits. Hope the Government having its entities asked to declare and pay dividends, for which amounts are sometimes predetermined, should be stopped in the new year 2024. Set dividend targets for each state entity as a KPI and let them declare their profits and pay dividends at the end each financial year. Remove or change Boards and CEOs of state entities that do not meet the KPIs and dividend targets. Happy New Year 2024.

What Does 'Good Looks Like' In Production Numbers As Future Reference? Root Cause Analysis or its three-letter-acronym, RCA, has a negative connotation which is often centered around developing an understanding to put in actions to mitigate incurring future risk of what has gone wrong. Too often when something good happens, we do not take the time to understand 'What Good Looks Like'. Our OTML generating this reported revenue is good and for things that are within our control, which is our production and not the metal prices, we have endeavoured to know what that 'Good Looks Like' in terms of production variables and the influences these have on the production's key result areas and to focus control over these variables. The December 2023 production outcome is a culmination of a transformative journey that our OTML has begun embarking on.
