Last week, I attended a fantastic event hosted by the Aerospace Technology Institute, University of Sheffield, and Henry Royce Institute, focused on sustainable manufacturing in aerospace. Reflecting on Day 2 at Danieli Innovaction Meeting #DIM2024: Advancing Industry Standards and Pioneering Sustainable Solutions. Yesterday it was concluded the insightful Day 2 of the Danieli Innovaction Meeting #DIM2024, featuring four parallel technical sessions that showcased the latest advancements in process technology for different industries. Of course key discussions were centered around #Decarbonization, #GreenSteel, #Sustainability within the Metals Industry. Andreas Bobolik and I were proud to contribute to these conversations by presenting a case study on the #GreenTransition at the voestalpine Stahl Donawitz featured by #DanieliDigiMelter. This landmark Austrian project is set to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 30% at the Donawitz site, with the Steelmaking route aiming for a reduction by almost 90% of CO2 emissions. These aren’t just goals; they’re milestones we must reached through dedication and innovation being always #OneStepAhead. 𝗝𝗘𝗖 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗽𝗼𝘀𝗶𝘁𝗲𝘀 𝗜𝗻𝗻𝗼𝘃𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗔𝘄𝗮𝗿𝗱𝘀 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟰: 𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗲 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝟭𝟭 𝘄𝗶𝗻𝗻𝗲𝗿𝘀 Annually, the JEC Composites Innovation Awards recognize successful initiatives and collaborative efforts within the composites industry. Over the past 26 years, the program has engaged over 2,000 companies globally, honoring 225 companies and 573 partners for their outstanding achievements in composite innovation and effective partnerships. Criteria for the awards include partner involvement in the value chain, project complexity, and commercial potential. The competition is open to any company, university, or R&D Center with a compelling collaborative innovation or concept to showcase. The success of participants is closely tied to partnerships and collective intelligence. Beyond being a ceremony, these awards serve as a platform to spotlight potentially undisclosed projects, inspiring and motivating an expert audience eager to explore new frontiers. After pre-selection of the 33 finalists, one winner has been named in each of the 11 categories by an international jury representing the entire composites value chain. Turning back my head on these three wonderful days, I can see a lot of faces, smiles, hands shaken, beautiful ideas realized or just blossoming all around me, at the #jecworld2024 It was fatiguing, but immensely rewarding, to see and meet and exchange ideas and visions with so many persons, sharing the passion for new, high performances and advanced materials. In particular I would like to thank the staff at #EUCIA european composites association for the insightful discussions and the future project ideas! Wrapping up these three intense days, the following items showed up so frequently that it is possible to identify as tranding topics: - the additive manufacturing, as a way to enhance the sustainability of tooling, in conjunction with faster and more repeatable production operations - the higher performances of the thermoplastics, following the thermosets thanks to the neverending efforts of the chemical producers and the market traction of such new materials suited for SMC and compression moulding - the continuing tension towards sustainability, meaning the end-of-life transformation (open and closed cycle) into new raw materials. Visibility gimmick, or real reuse of raw materials that are becoming more and more critical day after day, the hype is there! Head buzzing and feet soring, it is now time to reach the Airport.
