When Genworth, a leader in long-term care financing and services, planned their move into a renovation-ready building, Studio Director Gillian Bowman faced a unique challenge: designing a future-proof workplace without past precedent. Through data analysis and strategic stakeholder collaboration, the dynamic result not only met essential programming needs but also maximized wellness and adaptability, fostering a vibrant sense of community. Working at the intersection of story and purpose. Founder and Owner, Storyslices™ a cultural psychology based creative agency
Have you considered the way #HumanCenteredDesign can create more #livable #accessible #communities? Last night I was downtown in Minneapolis for dinner then on to hear the Indigo Girls play with the Minnesota Orchestra. It was snowing and as I walked between venues I watched a bobcat and its driver working hard to clear a bus stop. It’s so important to have public transit shelters cleaned and clear of snow to ensure access to transit. It was tough work with that awkward machine. I couldn’t help but wonder about the way a #ConnectedAutomatedVehicle (CAV) snow bot might be more nimble at the task. Next month I’ll be presenting a workshop on CAV and the role it might play in one city district, #StPaul’s #CreativeEnterpriseZone (CEZ), a place that’s all about creative work, innovation, and livability. The session is for the #AmericanPlanningAssociation's #NationalPlanningConference. Instead of starting with the solution in mind, this project invited the community to define what it needs to thrive. Then we explored what role CAV would play to fulfill those needs. We were able to explore two key questions: *What is CAV’s role in creating an equitable economy? *What does it look like to co-create the future of CAV with the community? We’ll share both our community engagement process and our findings at the session. Snow bots were a favored CAV application. I’ll be presenting with my colleagues Kurt Bearinger of HDR, Rebecca Lieser of Bellwether Consulting, and Thomas Johnson-Kaiser of #MnDOT. We’ll also host a half-day mobile tour of the #CreativeEnterpriseZone and Towerside Innovation District. Called Twin Districts: Innovation in Community Angela Casselton will share the vision and energy of the Zone with other urban planners. Colleagues from both Minneapolis and St. Paul planning departments and the Towerside Innovation District are also part of the tour including Daniel Kalmon, Hilary Dvorak, Spencer Miller-Johnson, CNU-A, Chris Hong, AICP, Carrie Ann Christensen, and more. #UrbanPlanning #CAVTechnologies #equity #humancentereddesign

Some say that flexible working signals the end of cities as we know them, others that humans are inherently social animals drawn to clustering. Cristiano Testi, Principal Director at tp bennett, will be discussing Microsoft’s approach to hybrid working with Simon Francis on the Main Stage at SPACE+ UK conference on 25th January, focusing on how they are aligning their real estate portfolio with quantifiable occupancy trends while remaining mindful of cultural nuances. Space+UK is a conference for progressive thinkers and for property leaders to meet. ~Announcement of Collaboration: PHLUSH & Pedestrian Space~ "While Public Hygiene Lets Us Stay Human (PHLUSH) has traditionally focused its efforts on equitable public restroom access in the United States, we are thrilled to partner with a globally-focused organization, as we recognize that this is a worldwide need. Pedestrian Space deeply values the opportunity to partner with PHLUSH, an organization wholly devoted to public restroom availability, as issues of toilet equity are universal and often sorely neglected both as a public amenity as well as in public discourse and awareness. We look forward to joining forces to coauthor content on public restrooms as an issue of public health and walkability; urban planning, governance and design; access to communities and overall livability." 😶 What is the silent majority not doing that they should and that would make our cities better for all? 🧒 Why changing perspective by approximately 100cm, to the point of the view of a child, would make our cities better? 🏙 And how should we encourage collaboration between different stakeholders, so that our cities thrive? Answers to these questions and and much more are in a super fun and super informative conversation I had with the urban planner Lior Steinberg, part of movmi’s micro webinar series “From Mindshift to Modeshift”. Check out the sneak peek below or go here to listen to the full episode: https://lnkd.in/exNFVJX9 (and if you do listen, let me know in the comments what you thought) —- I’m a human behaviour change geek and regularly share behavioural insights related to sustainable behaviours - with a particular focus on transport behaviours. #BehaviourChange #mobilitybehaviours #sustainablemobility #urbanplanning

🌐 **Exciting News from Able Eyes!** 🌐 We're thrilled to announce our latest project - a virtual tour for the Michigan Supreme Court in Lansing, MI! 🏛️ At Able Eyes, we believe in the power of accessibility as more than just a standard; it's an essential piece of information that empowers individuals. Our team has meticulously crafted this virtual tour to ensure everyone can explore the majestic halls of justice from the comfort of their homes. This isn't just about showing you around; it's about letting you experience the space through the lens of your own needs and preferences. Why a virtual tour for accessibility? Because we understand that accessibility cannot be one-size-fits-all. It's about providing detailed insights into a space, allowing you to assess its accessibility based on your unique requirements. This initiative aligns with our commitment to making the world more navigable and understandable for everyone. Through this virtual tour, you'll be able to virtually step into the Michigan Supreme Court and explore every corner, ensuring that the space meets your accessibility needs before you even visit in person. It's about giving you the independence to see for yourself, rather than relying on someone else's word. We're excited to bring you along on this journey, making spaces more accessible and navigable for all. 🏗️Sustainable Development Spotlight! Last week, I kicked off a six-week series spotlighting practitioners and community leaders working in equitable and sustainable development. These testimonials, gathered by the International Society for Urban Health (ISUH) team, feature inspiring stories from around the globe of changemakers working to build healthy spaces, improve infrastructure, and drive health equity. Check out our latest spotlight–it might even spark an idea for your community! Vibrant public spaces are essential for ensuring the social, physical, and economic wellbeing of residents. When designed as attractive, welcoming gathering places for people of all ages, these spaces can foster social interactions, support the local economy, improve resident health, and more. Drawing on examples from Bogotá, Colombia, Gil (Guillermo) Penalosa Penalosa of 8 80 Cities shares about the power of building equitable and inclusive spaces, like parks and public facilities, and how these spaces can transform urban areas.
