In 2020, Gordon began a partnership with Harlequins, supported by Sport England’s Diploma in Sporting Excellence scheme. Under the agreement, Harlequins provide significant support to the school. They send coaches including Jim Evans, the club’s academy coach, for four sessions a week. At year 12, Gordon’s admits around 20 promising rugby players a year as part of their partnership with Harlequins; the vast majority moved from state schools. While some of these pupils pay the school charges, a significant number benefit from means-tested bursaries. IDEA: Create Football ⚽️ Scouting Courses for UK 🇬🇧 PE Teachers in primary & secondary schools so they can be more switched on to scouting out football talent in there class. It’s one thing being an all rounded PE teacher that also runs the boys & girls football ⚽️ team but what if PE teachers can be better educated on how to scout football talent and have the certification to report it to Major Football ⚽️ Clubs making for more UK 🇬🇧 football talent and relying less on overseas talent to win places in our Premiership & Championship football clubs. It’s also more motivating for school 🏫 kids knowing there PE teachers are qualified to scout and recommend talented young footballers to major UK 🇬🇧 football ⚽️ clubs. So many opportunities could be won if PE teachers were trained & licensed to football ⚽️ scout in the Schools 🏫 they teach 🥅.

Spain is playing the best football in this euros. Now, what England can learn from it!? First, build spaces for children to play. In Spain you find open multi-sport pitches (full size futsal, plus basketball). Free to use for anyone. You find children playing, teenagers, adults, boys, girls. Creating games, their own rules, finding a way to play through chaos (because sometimes, you will be playing futsal and other people will be playing basketball). Lots of problems to be solved, lots of traffic and mobile obstacles. That environment full of different people with different skills sharing them with others. How this translates to the national team? That creativity, you cannot replicate it in a controlled environment (like academy) because when you interfere, you are taking learning opportunities away from the players. Second. The elephant in the room for me. The current youth football set up in the UK does not work because is taking the fun that that chaos brings. Also, it mimics the US franchise system and category by appointment instead of merits of the youth teams. Let kids play having fun and being creative! When coaching, guide them and encourage them to make mistakes so they try a different approach the next time they face a similar situation. And rondos for me a must, it is fun but builds that confidence on playing in tight spaces under constant pressure. That's how you develop world class players. #footballer #football #development #education #footballtraining #FA #footballcoaching

I teach my children: Win or lose, try your best. We learn and grow from both. But never, ever... Cheat. As many of you will know, my children play tennis and enter into tournaments. Unfortunately, the prevalence of cheating and gamesmanship among under 11 players during competitions is concerning. Instances of obvious cheating, racket smashing, excessive crying, time-wasting, and disruptive behaviour is common at most tournaments. These tournaments are stressful for both parents and children. It's tense. Parents wince, despair and feel every hit on every point. The pain of set backs far outweigh the pleasure of winning. Tempers occasionally boil over between parents. Parents just want their child to do well. I get it. But this desire doesn't mean it's ok for their child to behave counter to the spirit of the game and set a bad example for others. My kids have their moments but generally they're well behaved. Don't get me wrong. Winning is very important and we don't take part to make up the numbers. However, cheating and gamesmanship is not ok. Win with your skills, tenacity, and hard work. If someone is better than you on the day, get over it quickly, learn from it, and aim to do better next time. #lifelessons #tennis #sport #parents
