I've had the honour this last few weeks of being part of the recruitment process for a couple of positions in our team/organisation and there have been a few things that have struck me. 🍸 Our goal is not to test candidates but to get the best, and so we shared the questions beforehand, to all. This meant that we got considered, structured and calm answers that we could best assess for the jobs. 🍸 Candidates (we are all candidates at some point) need to be crystal clear on both why they are applying for the role and what their skills are. We are so frightened to talk about our skills, generally - celebrate them! 🍸 Sometimes the examples in answers have nothing to do with work. We are often much more able to talk freely about non-work examples and they can, if you think about it carefully, produce the most exemplary answers. Anyway, some things about #recruitment and #interviews which have been swimming around my head recently. Scotch Whisky Association #job #newjob #jobsinwhisky #jobsinscotland https://lnkd.in/ez2SY8r2

Anyone that knows me well would know that I absolutely love an Açai bowl. Ordered one from a new place at the weekend and whilst the contents were incredible, sadly the vessel was below par. Any Açai expert out there will appreciate that you need to to be able to mix the ingredients as and when you like, hence the height of this bowl was its downfall…… Anyway, as this is LinkedIn not Masterchef, I’ll join the dots for you…. I often get briefed on roles by clients who think what they are offering is all that every candidate would ever desire, but what they fail to recognise is that how you serve it up and present it is just as important. When interviewing candidates about a role, don’t leave all the good stuff until the end as you may not get the chance to showcase it. If you’re not using a recruiter that can help sell the dream, then make sure you leave candidates knowing all of the good stuff. If you don’t know what that is ask your current employees. So many times I speak to candidates that have met a great business to discuss a great opportunity but they left feeling underwhelmed. Why? If you need help with how to sell an opportunity then hit me up. All I ask in return is for a large shallow plastic bowl, some wet wipes and a shoulder bag to carry it all in. Ps. Yes that’s George Costanza’s wallet on the table 🧾💴💳🪪 #açai #vessel #broughtmyown #recruitment #interviewing

Interview at a Tea Company Interviewer(I): Good Morning Mr.Teeneer-selvam, The purpose of our tete-a-tete is to find out if you can works as the CEO of our chain of 'Tea Junctions' as we call it. With your experience with start-ups, we though you may be a right fit for the post. Teneer-selvam(T): Thank you for interviewing me. You shall find your company in the right hands if you give me this opportuni-tea. It is my speciali-tea of managing a verie-tea of businesses that brings me here. I: So what are the key requirements for running a chain of successful Tea outlets? T: First of all, we need great facili-teas, in proximi-tea to areas with high foot fall. Then we need to work on the visibili-tea of our brand, and create an acceptabili-tea in the customers minds. The dexteri-tea with which we provide service, the trendiness of our facili-tea, and the ambience should far outweigh the affordabili-tea of a cup of tea, accordingly we need to fix the pricing. I: How will you manage the profitabili-tea if you are to focus on the affordabili-tea? T: Oh first let customers flow, there are endless possibili-teas to manage the profitability-tea latter I:I find some ambigui-tea in your statement. T: Not at all, as long as volumes are high, we shall manage costs. Austeri-tea shall be the key. The workforce will ensure high productivi-tea and returns, if we harness their creativi-tea and desist from showing unnecessary authori-tea and animosi-tea towards them. I: I find your positivi-tea so refreshing. For the sake of brevi-tea let's conclude here. I shall fix up a meeting of yours with our Board Members who are meeting over cocktails at the Gymkhana, tonight, wherein you can showcase the verie-tea of your skills to establish your credibili-tea. T: I would be more comfortable in a formal setting since I am a tea-totaler. But before that, I am sure you shall show some indications of your generosi-tea, towards my compensation, to commensurate with my capabili-teas. I: Of course, we find your affini-tea to everything that's ending with tea so endearing that we shall definitely not be thrif-tea in our approach. Oh yes! One small thing, will you be able to relocate to Guwaha-tee T: that's one thing I will have to consult my Ponda-tea, (better half in Tamil) who is so attached to this ci-tea that she may end up being tea-ry eyed at the thought of a relocation. ***** Later on in conversation with his Pondatee Pondatee: I warned you not to prepare with the dictionary for your interview. Last time you went to the Gin company and spoke 30 minutes on their margins, they offered you a post in Tianjin China. Is there any way that you can find a company which offers you a posting in Syd-knee? #sundayread #funwithenglish #interviews

Applicant's Perspective? Just a simple 03 Course Meal of the Selection Process! For Starters (I) Since the Recruiter is my first person to meet, let it be all about a broad overview and understanding of the company's culture. For the Main Course (II) Let me express my requirements while we understand the ingredients offered to me by my potential company. Sometimes, a mix of everything brings us to a delicious recipe. For the Dessert (III) This brings us to the end of the meal experience. It should be a memorable one with the everlasting C's (Clarity & Constant Support). How would you rate your perspective on this? #humanresources #hrcommunity #recruitment #foodforthought

One skill that's incredibly valuable in hospitality: on-the-spot problem solving. It's at the top of the list during our hiring process. It's actually pretty easy to tell if a candidate has this skill. One dead giveaway is that they ask a *lot* of specific questions during the interview process. Asking a lot of questions is a sign that your candidate... -Has an advanced understanding of how assess a problem -Wants to devise a solution that's intricately custom-tailored to the problem -Is adept at anticipating obstacles and addressing them preemptively In other words, they don't just want to attack a problem. They want to solve it efficiently, and effectively. In the off-premise catering world, almost nothing ever goes exactly as planned. But we have people on our team who can come up with effective solutions to complex problems *in the moment*. It's one of the biggest reasons why the Worthwhile name is synonymous with peace of mind. What traits do you look for in the hiring process? #catering #nycevents #staffing #hospitality
