It was a pleasure to have Cierra Mitchell, Division Director of the Office of Apprenticeship with the U.S. Department of Labor stop by our booth during SkillsUSA's #NLSC2024 and try her hand at MIG welding. Paige, our first-year apprentice, knows firsthand the benefits of trades apprenticeship programs! With the start of the academic year a hot topic at DJ Mace & Son (Electrical Contractors) Limited has been Investing in Apprenticeships At DJ Mace and Son, we appreciate the importance of apprenticeships in sustaining the future of the electrical contracting industry. We see apprentices as the lifeblood of our company, and we are proud to currently have five apprentices at different stages of their learning journey. One of our apprentices is in their first year, beginning their foundational training and learning the core skills needed to become a qualified electrician. Another apprentice is in their second year, building on their knowledge and starting to apply practical skills to real-world electrical systems. Our third-year apprentice is gaining deeper insights into more complex electrical installations and maintenance work, growing in confidence and expertise. We also have two apprentices in their fourth year, who are now nearing the completion of their training. These individuals are preparing to take on more responsibilities as fully qualified electricians. We are committed to providing our apprentices with the support and mentorship they need to succeed. By fostering a strong culture of learning and growth, we ensure that each apprentice not only develops the technical skills required but also the confidence and professional attributes that will serve them throughout their careers. At DJ Mace and Son, we believe that investing in apprenticeships is essential not only for our company but for the entire electrical contracting industry. By developing new talent and ensuring that our apprentices receive the highest quality training, we are helping to close the skills gap and support the future of this vital sector.

Can you meet public work apprenticeship bid specifications? One of the biggest challenges that prevents open-shop contractors from moving into doing public works jobs is the apprenticeship requirements attached to these bids. It is costly and involved to provide approved apprentice programs for your company so many contractors never bother. Does this sound like you? The Alliance offers open-shop (non-union) building and heavy construction contractors a cost-effective opportunity to meet the bid specs to “have apprenticeship agreements” and participate in DOL registered apprentice training in the laborer, carpentry, operating engineer, ironworker and cement finisher/mason trades - all under one agreement! If you're considering bidding on public works projects but aren't sure of what is needed to meet the apprenticeship agreements, call us. We can help! #skilledtrades #construction #constructionindustry #apprenticeships #governmentbids #contractors
