SHERWOOD HIGH SCHOOL CAREER & TECHNICAL EDUCATION (CTE) PROGRAM CONTINUES TO GROW
I was excited to be invited to attend the recent CTE Industry Partnership meeting which Adam Mitchell, Principal of Sherwood High School, and Liz Barrett, the SHS Career Center Director, put together on April 24, 2024 at Sherwood High School. Over the last few years, Liz and Adam have been working closely with the teachers at SHS and the industry partners to grow this program which is intended to provide alternative career opportunities for Sherwood students. The program recognizes the essential need to grow the next generation of our workforce and opportunities our students to grow into the middle class. Industry partners invited to participate at the meeting included Intel Corporation (semiconductors), Lam Research (semiconductors), NSI Manufacturing/Nuance Systems (semiconductors/cleantech), Rosendin Electric (construction), GK Machining, Albina (metals and machining), Portland General Electric, Perlo Construction, Sherwood Broadband, Cooper Mountain Aleworks (hospitality), Washington County Visitors Association (hospitality), Hampton Inn by Hilton-Sherwood (hospitality), Fortis Construction, Inc., Agranoff (entrepreneurship), Harris Thermal Transfer Products (industrial fabricators), Delap CPA’s, Maria Ponzi (Oregon Wine Country), Metropolitan Land Group, George Fox University and others. There was an extensive discussion about opportunities for job shadowing and how to focus on the skill needs of industry.
From an economic development perspective, I am so excited about the work that the SHS Career Center is doing to introduce students to various alternative careers which will help grow the prosperity of our city and region.
Thanks for the leadership!!
