Building Knowledge at Elkhorn Middle School: We’re excited to share that our survey team members, Jim Toberman and Drew Sertle, recently had the opportunity to assist with construction staking of the new outdoor pavilion project at the Elkhorn Area Middle School! Our involvement in the project is through a partnership with the Elkhorn Area School District and the Elkhorn YouthBuild Program. The building will be used as an outdoor learning space for the students and community. The project was an educational experience for the students, as Jim and Drew demonstrated how survey equipment is properly used in construction layout. It was a wonderful experience to engage with the next generation of tradespeople and share the importance of precision and accuracy in surveying. We’re proud to have contributed to the development of this new pavilion and the education of these students, and we look forward to construction starting soon! Pictured are Jim and Drew with the YouthBuild students and the groundbreaking ceremony. #buildingforthefuture

SUPER PROGRESS AT CHENNESTONE PRIMARY SCHOOL Work is advancing rapidly at Chennestone Primary School in Sunbury-on-Thames, as Surrey County Council's project transitions into autumn. The project includes comprehensive strengthening and refurbishment of the flat roofs across the school estate, covering a total of 22 roofs and 2,000 square metres. The removal of asbestos-containing materials has been completed ahead of schedule for 2024, and six roofs have already been fully stripped and replaced with new, high-quality Bauder Flat Roofs roofing. Additionally, two of these roofs have had new fascias installed, with capsheet applied to the new trim. To ensure minimal disruption to the students' learning experience, some classes will temporarily move to the newly installed Portakabins over the next few months, while work is conducted on the roofs above their classrooms. Safety and minimising disruption are MCS’s highest priorities during the execution of this project; so earlier this month Site Manager, Danica Chambers, delivered two important presentations. The first, held during a teacher training session, where Danica explained the project’s progress, the associated new safe operating procedures and programme. The second was delivered to the pupils during school assembly. The pupils, aged between 5 and 11, were excited to learn about the improvements happening at their school. They asked a variety of thoughtful questions, including: "How long does it take to replace a roof?", "Do we need to wear hard hats too?" and "What are those big white things on the school field?"—referring to the Portakabins. All these works are very carefully coordinated and delivered in a strict phased sequence, with full collaboration from the school, in order to minimise disruption. #construction #constructionUK #constructionNews #LoveConstruction #refurbishment #School #Surrey #building #extension #collaboration

Shaping Calgary Together: Community & Public Involvement (Core 3) While we gear up for patio weather by dusting off the outdoor furniture, PIP is helping community members dust off their participation skills with a series of engagement designed to support participants with: - what information can I gain through Notice Posting boards and Development Map - how do I participate in an LAP or a Public Hearing? - what does that construction sign mean, and - how do I decipher that Facebook post about a new building? Land allocated through planning for development, preconstruction archaelogy clearly recently done ✔️. But with today’s spring showers and the increased built area just up the hill someone will soon be owning a house in the wrong pond and if they don’t it’ll have to be moved to the houses further down, or the school, or the hospital. Some days I think that we’re simply ticking off the boxes of a process and not thinking about why things are actually needed. #waterflowsdownhill

Every month we like to choose a project to feature. This month, we’ve chosen Bloxham School, Stonehill House. Stonehill House was nominated for ‘Project of the Year’ at OxPropFest Awards 2023. The thriving independent coeducation school required a solution that would enable the school to achieve 40 boarding places, as well as a new common room and tutor room, to facilitate growth of the school. *Project challenge* There are challenges to overcome with every project, and that is what makes each one unique and interesting to work on. Those challenges are one of the reasons we chose Bloxham School as our Project of the Month. Key considerations: - Located in a conservation area - Grade II listed building - Limited vehicular access - Structural challenges - Proximity to residential properties Take a look at the journey and how the school achieved its vision: https://lnkd.in/eP75NzxE #featuredproject #planning #bloxham #oxfordshire #planningpermission #school #conservationarea #listedbuilding Image credit: Clews Architects and Andy Marshall, Fotofacade

As progress on the Safe Routes to School project continues, you may notice changes to areas around the designated School Zone too. Where School Zone signs do not include a posted speed limit, these are considered School Areas. These areas have lower risk and consider school type, road classification, road proximity to school, location of signalized intersections, and other deciding variables. School Zone sign installations will be fully complete by September 3rd. Elm tree trimming will take place after the August 31 tree trimming ban is lifted. #CityMJ #SafetyFirst

Building for life, building for generations❣ Following our social value program, we very often share our knowledge and passion for the construction industry with the younger generation. #bouygues #tkm #socialutility #sharingknowledge By introducing children to the world of construction at an early age, we hope to create awareness and stimulate their interest in pursuing a career in construction industry in the future. #constructionindustry #earlyproforientation 👷♂️👷♀️ We answer many questions and rejoice at the simplest things, like an orange-happy helmet, a super-huge computer. 😄 Children watch several cartoons that provide them with important information about the construction industry and ways to protect themselves and the environment. We talk about the importance of safety and awareness of what surrounds us. Building children's interest in the construction industry is all about inspiring a passion for building! 🧡 #BuildingForLife #futureconstructionleaders

PUSHING THE ENVELOPE I would like to pile on the congratulations to the project team, but with a Building Science twist: Not only did they receive the 2024 MCA Choice Award, they also achieved a Whole Building Air Tightness test result of 0.015CFM50/SF!!! For a point of reference, the Phuis airtightness requirement is 0.060 CFM50/SF. - 285,000 square feet building footprint - 423,000 square feet exterior enclosure surface area If you want the equivalent value at 75pascals, the power law conversion would be 0.019CFM75/SF. If you’re stuck in your ways and want to turn this into a less sensible metric, the average building height of 34 feet would give you 0.04ACH50 Multipoint table and chart in the comments below. Congratulations to #RockRidgeHighSchool, winner of the 2024 Choice Award presented by Minnesota Construction Association! We are so proud to be part of the team that realized this outstanding project. #KABuilds #Schools #awardsofexcellence

This community college in Southern California had a gravel roof that leaked in multiple places. Finding leaks in gravel roofs is like finding a needle in a haystack. Still, WeatherWeld eliminated that problem by seamlessly encapsulating the roof, creating one seamless piece over the existing gravel roof. Now this community college has a leak-free roof for the life of the building. You can eliminate your roof leaks too. Schedule an inspection at www.weatherweld.com #roofmaintenance #facilitiesmaintenance #buildingmaintenance #facilities #facilitiesmanager #facilitiesmanagement
