Today, we had a celebratory lunch to recognize our incredible summer interns. It has been such a pleasure working with this group of talented and dedicated individuals. We are so grateful for their hard work and the fresh perspectives they brought to our team. We want to extend a huge thank you to all the mentors and staff who took the time to train and support the interns. Your guidance and mentorship have made a real impact! Seeing our interns leave is always bittersweet, but we're excited to see where their careers take them. #engineeringstudents

Interns: The best 5 minutes you can spend before leaving! It's feedback season! With internships coming to a close, make sure you leave with a clear idea of how you performed. Talk to your supervisors, team leaders, and peers. Also, take some time to reflect on your experience. 📌 Did you enjoy it? 📌 What did you learn? 📌 Did you feel valued? 📌 Was the environment good for growth? These are the important questions to consider as you wrap up the summer. The answers to these questions will help you develop in the future. __________ I post weekly content to help college students and young pros be successful. If that's you, welcome aboard Jerah Reeves

It’s almost summer and it’s time for sun ☀️, sand 🏖️, and summer interns 🙂! Summer can be a great time to take on those back-burner projects you’ve been pressing pause on during the busy season. Bringing someone on for a temporary part-time project could be a great way to get you extra bandwidth and help less experienced workers learn on the job. Check out my blog post https://lnkd.in/eAJhEw7z for more details on all the reasons why PAID internships are the way to go: Attract top talent and live into your values of creating great places to work!

Internships, when well executed can be tools that elevate your impact with respect to diversity, equity, and inclusion. This isn't just about paying your interns well, either. That's the bare minimum. Not everyone has access to a car to arrive on time or a budget for nice clothing to match the corporate aesthetic. However, one of the best ways to influence upward mobility is relationships. As interns - they have less to lose and more to gain by building relationships with each other and staying connected. In addition to making sure your program is less about cleaning out the file cabinets and more about building basic skills that make them viable for entry level roles... teach your interns how to network in a fashion that cultivates depth of relationship - not just quantities. I made that mistake as a rookie intern. By the 4th internship I realized collecting the name or business card of every lost soul I encountered in the elevator wasn't going to cut it. You can teach them that and so much more... Photo by Alexander Suhorucov: https://lnkd.in/edFayvps

🌟 Embracing Interns: The Backbone of Innovation 🌟 Interns aren't just coffee runners or document filers. They're the lifeblood of fresh perspectives and untapped potential! 💡 Here's why we value our interns: 1️⃣ Diverse Perspectives: Interns inject new ideas and fresh viewpoints into our projects, challenging the status quo and sparking innovation. 2️⃣ Skill Development: Internships offer invaluable hands-on experience, nurturing talent and cultivating the leaders of tomorrow. 3️⃣ Bridging Generations: Interns bridge the gap between seasoned professionals and the digital-native generation, fostering collaboration and knowledge exchange. 4️⃣ Mutual Growth: As interns learn from us, we learn from them! It's a symbiotic relationship where both parties grow and evolve together. Want to learn more about the Key to Career program with Darlington County School District? Interesting insights with Washington Post Live regarding internships. Too often we only look at a junior in college to hire for an intern. With higher education's journey changing so much, so too should company's strategy when it comes to hiring interns. If you're waiting until they are a junior in college - we say that's too late.

"We shouldn't have to do that" Recently I was talking to someone in the industry and that was their sentiment surrounding extended & enhanced onboarding for new summer interns. We had just discussed how our Workforce Development team gets a full week to get our new summer interns (current college students studying something construction or engineering related) and how appreciative we are that our Execs & Operations Team fully support this investment. Should we HAVE to do this? To me that is irrelevant - we have data and anecdotal evidence showing that we NEED to do this. Our commitment to "Investing In People" compels us to take the time necessary to set these young folks (most of whom are new to the industry) up for success & for "Winning In The Field" Reminds us of the quote from Henry Ford: "The only thing worse than training your employees and having them leave is not training them and having them stay." It's good for the interns, Sargent, our industry, and our region(s). And it's a really fun week for Kevin Gordon & me! 😃 pictured: Meredith Brewer, Sargent Foreman and the architect of our internship program giving the new New England interns a peptalk! 📸 Kevin
