NU Entrepreneurs Club Husky Startup Challenge Day #2 I completed the second Husky Startup Challenge bootcamp! I walked away with some insights that I'm excited to share :) 1. Find Your USP! Without a unique selling proposition, your only weapon is marketing. The odds are you are competing with an established player in your industry. It may be difficult to outmatch their marketing firepower! 2. Explore the Market Landscape. There are different kinds of markets— some are just nascent, others are existent. The golden opportunities exist at the intersection of both. There is even a funny term for these markets: "purple oceans." 3. Choose the Right Co-Founder. Did you know that co-founder disagreements are one of the leading causes of startup failure? They rank second right after failing to find product-market fit. When selecting a co-founder, look for someone you trust, who works hard, and shares your values. These qualities can outweigh specific skills because you’ll face tough decisions together early on, and skills can always be learned. 4. TAM, SAM, and SOM. To gauge the potential of a solution, one can quantify its Total Addressable Market (TAM), its Serviceable Addressable Market (SAM), and its Serviceable Obtainable Market (SOM). TAM is the total market for your solution, SAM is the share you can realistically target, and SOM is what you can feasibly acquire based on your business model. Last week I was also inspired by the story of Paul Bradley, CEO and founder of Master Tour. His dedication to growing his business and creating positive impact is truly motivating. Check out his story below.

Financial Analyst @ RTX | Owner @ Cox Accounting and Analytics | Small Business Fraud Expert | I post content on how accounting firms can protect clients from fraud using financial analytics, prevention tactics, and AI.
One of the coolest things about our profession is that there is always something new to learn. Also, we all know how crucial it is to have a positive and motivational influence in our lives. I recently discovered a fantastic podcast called The Sweaty Startup by Nick Huber, thanks to a recommendation from Chayton Farlee. What I love about this podcast is that it's full of real, practical advice delivered in bite-sized episodes - most are only about 6 minutes long! There's no pausing and rewinding the episode because I missed something. It's also so motivational to me. I enjoy hearing about Nick Huber's down-to-earth stories of how he built his empire - no gimmicks, just sweating and grinding. A couple of my favorite quotes from the podcast are: ➡ "True success is only achieved when you get out of your comfort zone." ➡ "Stress is relative." ➡ "Add value first - every interaction should provide value." That last one is something that I repeat over and over in my head when I make decisions in my business. Continuous added value for your clients is what makes them stick around! If you're looking for a quick dose of inspiration or practical business advice, give it a listen (https://lnkd.in/gc9XGQkf) and let me know what you think! #PodcastRecommendation #AccountingProfessionals #AccountingandAccountants #ContinuousLearning #BusinessAdvice #SweatyStartup

In our latest episode on the Practical Nerds podcast, Patric and I discuss an aspect of starting up that affects every start-up (and should affect every conversation with a VC) but remains scarily opaque and under-appreciated. We go through why the extent and nature of a company's burn is reflective of how good/bad the company is at Capital allocation and delivering a Return on Investment, and why this becomes even more existential for AECS companies. Check out the episode and follow our podcast !
