Is the concept of the "productive city" a good idea? 🏙️ If we want to reduce our dependence on globalized supply chains and at the same time use regional value chains for the ecological restructuring of the economy and society, we should think about it. Because what will make city centers attractive in the future? 🌟 Where will urban society meet, how can spaces be used differently and better? It's worth taking a look at Stuttgart, where the Internationale Bauausstellung 2027 StadtRegion Stuttgart (IBA’27) is radically rethinking the productive city in Winnenden and Fellbach. The title "Agriculture meets Manufacturing" makes us very curious. You too? 👉 Why is the productive city worthwhile? https://lnkd.in/dDYSSScP #transformation #urbandevelopment #innovation #future fotocredit: IBA’27 / F. Kraufmann

💿 🚍 Today we take a look at the DISCO Project, of which Venice International University is one of the partners. DISCO is the acronym for: Data-driven, Integrated, Syncromodal, Collaborative and Optimized urban freight meta model for a new generation of urban logistics and planning with data sharing at European Living Lab. DISCO supports cities in transforming urban logistics, planning, and managing urban and peri-urban spaces. The DISCO Data Space helps city authorities plan transportation and warehousing more effectively by syncing real-time demand with logistics supply. It also supports European urban logistics players in reducing dependence on private digital platforms and aims to expand the scope of Sustainable Urban Mobility Plans. 🚚 Aims The DISCO project will contribute to the decarbonization and digitalization of cities by delivering innovative frameworks and tools for urban logistics planning and developing. DISCO solutions are created to engage all involved parties (such as cities, logistics companies, retailers, public and private infrastructure owners, transport operators, research community, and civil society) in bringing a paradigm change from sprawl to more efficient, zero-emission and local delivery-based models. 📦 VIU Role VIU is coordinating the Padua Living Lab - a dynamic urban space project that uses modular lockers (fully automated electronic drawers, that are used for delivery and collection of packages) and a coordinated logistics network that uses real-time data to optimize service. The aim is to develop an urban logistics network that uses micro hubs strategically and collects real-time data that are used for optimal management of freight and urban transport capacity in the last mile. 👉 For more information: https://lnkd.in/ecQJH-SQ https://lnkd.in/eip4vaTQ

This week began with a visit to the city of Copenhagen, Denmark and a very special Kyriba client who I won’t name for privacy reasons. 🤫 It was my first time visiting this remarkable city and after doing some research and some exploring, I was struck by how forward thinking the Danish lifestyle really is. 🇩🇰 Copenhagen isn’t just a city—it’s a vision of the future. From sustainability to innovation, here’s why I believe it’s leading the way: ✅ Sustainability at Its Core: Copenhagen aims to be the world’s first carbon-neutral capital by 2025. With extensive bike lanes, green energy initiatives, and eco-friendly architecture, it’s a model for cities worldwide. ✅ Human-Centric Design: The city prioritizes livability with accessible public spaces, pedestrian-friendly streets, and a focus on community well-being. ✅ Innovation Hub: As a leader in green technology, urban design, and smart city solutions, Copenhagen attracts visionaries and entrepreneurs shaping the world of tomorrow. ✅ Collaborative Spirit: Its success lies in a culture of collaboration between government, businesses, and citizens—all working toward a shared vision of progress. Copenhagen reminds us that a better future is possible when people and the planet come first. 🌟 What lessons can other cities learn from Copenhagen? Let’s discuss! 💬 #Copenhagen #Sustainability #Innovation #UrbanDesign #Kyriba #Treasury #Finance #Progressive #SocialImpact

Hey Everyone 👋 This post is about when Heritage meets sustainability! ✨ In our Heritage Studio (Semester 2 in Politecnico di Torino), we had the incredible opportunity to work on Venaria Reale, a historic gem near Turin, Italy, and home to the iconic "Reggia di Venaria". This studio challenged us to reimagine how heritage sites can thrive in modern cities while preserving their cultural essence. Our project explored Venaria through two phases. First, we analyzed its strengths (cultural and tourist potential), weaknesses (poor infrastructure), and threats like climate risks. Then, we developed a revitalization plan focusing on green space, mobility, and climate resilience. By enhancing connectivity, reactivating public spaces, and addressing flood risks, we envision Venaria as a sustainable, vibrant, and inclusive hub where heritage and modern life coexist beautifully. ✨ #UrbanPlanning #HeritageStudio #Sustainability #VenariaReale #Heritage #revitalization #Urban #design #urbandesign #HistoricPreservation #ClimateResilience #Turin #Italy #StudentProject #CreativeDesign #CulturalHeritage #Inspiration

🎥 The journey continues for the #UN4UkrainianCities Masterplan Series as we explore how Mykolaiv’s industrial heritage will find new purpose in the recovery of the city. In this episode, our Associate Director, Francesca Pintus, sheds light on Mykolaiv's rich maritime legacy and the ambitious plans to breathe new life into its industrial past, a key strategy of the wider Concept Masterplan for the city. 🚢 One of the key projects? The revitalization of an old 100-hectare riverfront shipyard site, into a vibrant waterfront neighborhood. A space where decades old cranes coexist with offices, restaurants, and residential blocks, creating an open-air, diffused museum that celebrates the city’s past while building its future. ️"This is an exciting project that can happen over time and in phases. We believe that initiating this process and letting the shipyard be a trigger for regeneration will help reshape not only the economy but also the image of Mykolaiv," says Francesca. 🏗️ The masterplan highlights how cities can leverage their historical assets to create distinctive, livable spaces that meet the demands of contemporary urban life while preserving their unique character. Stay tuned for more stories on how we’re working to help improve Mykolaiv’s infrastructure with this vision at its core! 🔗 Learn more here: https://lnkd.in/dUHhbX-7 One Works Foundation UNECE Housing and Land Management Unit United Nations Economic Commission for Europe Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) UNDP Ukraine Oleksandr Syenkevych, Mayor of Mykolaiv Politecnico di Milano LAND Systematica Fondazione Housing Sociale LIUC - Università Cattaneo #CityontheWave #UABSC
