Solid solid program for the Year of Open Science Conference. Getting back on the "Year of Open Science" and hot updates on all things OS - Grassroots initiatives, Policy & Compliance, Reforming Research Evaluation, Measuring OS. Basically all the things we have been and are continuously working towards at the Tanenbaum Open Science Institute & The Neuro (Montreal Neurological Institute-Hospital), but at the slightly* larger US-Federal scale...
The program for the Year of Open Science Conference is live! Registration is still open, and still free.

if you know, you know SpaceX's polaris dawn crew shares a few health impact experiments being conducted space is a mystery and as this crew experiences the perils of 5 days orbiting earth at 25,000 kmh. witnessing 15-16 sunrises/sunsets every 24 hours. it's also meaningful to include all of us in a few of the experiments that they are conducting whilst there. ' while in orbit, the crew will conduct scientific research designed to advance both human health on earth and our understanding of human health during future long-duration spaceflights. This includes, but is not limited to: using ultrasound to monitor, detect, and quantify venous gas emboli (vge), contributing to studies on human prevalence to decompression sickness; gathering data on the radiation environment to better understand how space radiation affects human biological systems; providing biological samples towards multi-omics analyses for a long-term biobank; and research related to spaceflight associated neuro-ocular syndrome (sans), which is a key risk to human health in long-duration spaceflight. SpaceX and polaris dawn will also collaborate with the Translational Research Institute for Space Health (TRISH), BioServe Space Technologies at the university of colorado boulder, @Space Technologies Lab at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, Weill Cornell Medicine, johns hopkins university applied physics laboratory, the Pacific Northwest National Laboratory, and the United States Air Force Academy. From the Office of Research: Dr. Kevin Mueller, an assistant professor in the Department of Biological, Geological, and Environmental Sciences (BGES), has been awarded $299,844 by NASA to study the optical properties of leaves utilizing hyperspectral imaging. Plants have unique amounts and types of leaf waxes that perform functions like water uptake and protection from pests, as well as variable leaf internal composition and thickness. These factors affect how the leaves reflect light. Read more here: https://lnkd.in/ewj3i8Yk

#Humanitarian and #DisasterManagement colleagues - #NASA is holding a 6-week program for "humanitarian-earth science teams looking to scale their proven innovations." It's called "Ready for Impact" and it's managed by NASA Lifelines (Shoutout Sarah!). "NASA Lifelines exists to bring experts from different sectors, disciplines, countries, and backgrounds together to use our incredible assets in space to improve life on Earth. We recognize that working alongside humanitarians and affected communities, we can make the right impact sooner than later." Application window is closing (Applications due NLT April 2nd). #SpaceRocks #EmergencyManagement #NerdStuff #GIS #Space #DisasterResponse Daniel Brad Jay Michael NASA - National Aeronautics and Space Administration
