Meanwhile health care is collecting all kinds of 'risk factor' and 'social needs' data without a second thought to how this data can be used to harm the families they say they are trying to help. The draft Federal Health IT Strategic Plan talks about collecting more and more data (clearly, the more the better!) while draft Federal privacy legislation (APRA) emphasizes data minimization and civil rights. We need to align our national privacy efforts and health IT efforts. Not to mention aligning social service efforts with health care efforts without health care colonizing the social service system. #HealthIT #Privacy #ChildWelfare #FamilyPolicing #Surveillance
Another tragic case of a mother who seeks help for interpersonal violence, only to be punished by the family police and threatened with permanent separation from her children. This case is receiving necessary attention because of the added harm of the cops shooting her son while asking for help, but similar cases where mothers are blamed for their victimization and then punished for seeking help are happening in every state all around us as you're reading this. https://lnkd.in/gnmiXbcH

NEED PROOF AFTER PROOF THERE IS PLENTY OF PROOF AND MORE WITNESSES
This is a direct quote from one of the members of Kibbutz Re’im who witnessed a horrific scene on October 7th. “There was gunfire in the apartment. Inside were three bodies of women. Two of them were lying tied and naked. Evidence of sexual assault was clear. It was horrible.” By N12News

Helpful little video about stalking and the importance of having stalking advocates. They rightly point out each individual incident of stalking (cyber or otherwise) can seem insignificant. But if all these incidents are collated and put together in a timeline, they can paint a terrifying picture of potentially deadly obsession from a potentially highly dangerous or mentally unwell stalker. Having trained stalking advocates, like trained DFV advocates are I believe the missing link in the Australian justice system in any crimes where stalking is a major factor. Advocates can bridge the gaps between general duties police who usually aren’t tech facilitated abuse trained, private cyber security companies whose services may be government funded, and acting as a support for the stalked victim. Being a victim of stalking can be extremely isolating especially as tech becomes more prevalent in our lives, and if the perpetrators are tech savvy and highly fixated and determined to use anything and everything at their disposal to control their victims. I’ve seen victims go through countless phones and devices and have to discard them all due to cyber infections and then containing forensic evidence. I’ve watched their worlds shrink to their bedrooms, surrounded by alarms and security cameras, afraid to leave the house in case the perpetrator is lying in wait for them. Too scared to turn on their phones in case they’ve been hacked and remotely controlled like other phones have been. Scotland seems to be leading the way with stalking advocates being available in some regions. They sound like a great resource for police as well as victims, just as DFV advocates are in Australia. Specialist advocates are one way our governments can help combat DFV/SA and crimes like stalking by funneling funding to these community organisations. They also help alleviate the overwhelming load of DFV/SA and interpersonal crimes on local police forces. #stalking #cyberstalking #advocates #dfv #sexualassault #police #law #courts
It started with texts - then grew into terror. Jenny found safety through Suzy Lamplugh Trust and the Home Office-funded National Stalking Helpline. Stalking is a crime. If you or anyone you know is at risk ⬇ https://lnkd.in/dc9Y2pr

National Center for Prevention of Community Violence : Actively Caring for People The Kipper Group Best Selling Author : USA Today , Wall Street Journal International Speaker 30 Year Law Enforcement Veteran
While much attention in this case will be focused on the Law Enforcement response or lack there of. This is another situation that points clearly to the fact that Violence is a Process that starts with in many cases known behavior before the tragedy. The need for community and school based Threat Assessment is essential to preventing future tragedies. #violence #threatassessment #NCPCV
Yes, the law enforcement response in Uvalde was a disaster, as the DOJ report out today reaffirms. Also, this devastating mass shooting never should've happened in the first place. There were many disturbing warning signs from the perpetrator, who, the day he turned 18, legally purchased an arsenal of AR-15s and highly lethal ammunition, as I documented in my reporting. Sharing again in honor of the young victims and survivors, their families and the rest of their profoundly hurt community. There is much more we can do as a nation to prevent these tragedies. #gunviolenceprevention #threatassessment

My argument exactly! In orders of protection, sure the perpetrator can lose their FOID/CC privileges, but they are required to turn in ALL weapons. What are we doing to ensure that actually happens? What can we do to start a process to remove the weapons ASAP and not assume an abuser will voluntarily hand them in?

27,000 Americans die by suicide using a gun. More gun deaths due to suicide than gun deaths due to murder, about 20% more. We should all be outraged & want TWO things from our politicians. (1) More resources put towards mental health awareness & therapy. It is still a stigma in the US if a person calls out for help and goes to therapy, especially for males. (2) Better gun-control legislation. We say our gun laws are already too restrictive. Not so, they are not comprehensive enough. 16 states and DC have laws requiring guns stored locked, only about 30% of the nation. Ask your politician if they have helped pass legislation for more comprehensive laws. If not, don’t vote for him or her. please HELP! This heart-wrenching story should change your thinking. https://lnkd.in/gFAeUmJD #guncontrol #gunsafety #Republicans #Democrats #mentalhealth
