How do you manage Menopause in your organisation? - Over 25% of women have considered leaving work due to Menopause - Nearly 75% of women have said that their symptoms negatively impact their work - Many women feel alone or unable to talk about their experiences in the workplace Women make up nearly half of our workforce, and when they are starting to experience perimenopause and menopause, the health issues that come with it are not always recognised. Why should we talk about Menopause in the Workplace? It’s estimated that of the 33m people employed in the UK, nearly 6m of those are experiencing menopause today. Menopause can have a huge impact on people’s lives: 3 in 4 experience symptoms and 70% experience stress as a result. From a professional perspective, these people are often at the peak of their professional careers, yet 14% end up reducing their work to part-time hours and 10% actually leave the workplace altogether. That's a lot of talent and experience to lose! Shining a light on menopause at work is the right thing to do, and it’s good for your organisation’s bottom line too, with benefits including boosted productivity, decreased absenteeism and retaining talent. We know that flexible working really helps to support people at this stage in their lives and is yet another reason we are such advocates for flexible work! The concept of having support for employees going through menopause is probably something that’s not completely comfortable for all companies. However, it’s a great idea. On average, Menopause/Perimenopause affects women from ages 40-58, that’s a lot of the workforce. A good start are Women’s Health ERGs.  where would you start? Does this make you uncomfortable? This is my latest blog on the topic of supporting menopausal women in the workplace. Studies show that 59% of women experience symptoms of menopause that negatively impact their work performance (Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD) Report, 2019). Other research indicates that 14 million workdays are lost each year in the UK due to menopause symptoms, costing UK businesses £2.5 billion annually in lost productivity (Nottingham Business School Report, 2017). Nearly 1 in 10 women in the UK have left their job due to menopausal symptoms, with 25% of women seriously considering leaving their roles because of the lack of support at work (British Menopause Society). #menopause #menopausesupport #menopauseatwork
