Some of my favourite things to do are the following: 💡👁️ Treating dry eyes typically involves a combination of lifestyle changes, home remedies, and medical interventions. Here are some steps to help alleviate and manage dry eyes: Use Artificial Tears: great artificial tear eye drops can help lubricate the eyes and provide temporary relief from dryness and irritation. Choose preservative-free drops for frequent use. Make sure to check with your eye care professionals. Maintain Good Eyelid Hygiene: Keep your eyelids clean by gently washing them with a mild soap and warm water. This can help prevent blockages in the oil glands that contribute to dry eyes. There are also some good and recommended eyelid wipes. (Check with your eye care professionals for recommendations) Blink Regularly: Make a conscious effort to blink more frequently, especially when using digital devices or focusing on a task for an extended period. Blinking helps spread tears evenly over the surface of the eyes. Follow the 20-20-20 Rule: Take regular breaks when using screens or doing close-up work. Every 20 minutes, look at something 20 feet away for at least 20 seconds to reduce eye strain and dryness. Stay Hydrated: Drink plenty of water throughout the day to maintain overall hydration, which can help keep your eyes moist and comfortable. Omega-3 Fatty Acids: Incorporate foods rich in omega-3 fatty acids, such as fish, flaxseeds, and walnuts, into your diet or consider taking omega-3 supplements, as they may help improve eye lubrication. Warm Compresses: Applying a warm compress to your closed eyes can help unclog oil glands and improve tear quality. Use a clean, commercially available eye mask. Bruder mask are one of just the examples out there. Consult an Eye Care Professional: If home remedies and lifestyle changes do not provide adequate relief, consult an eye care professional. They can recommend prescription eye drops, medications, or advanced treatments to address the underlying cause of your dry eyes. It's important to note that the best treatment for dry eyes may vary depending on the underlying cause and severity of the condition. A healthcare provider can provide a personalized treatment plan tailored to your specific needs.

UP YOUR DRYEYEQ SERIES: How common is dry eye disease globally? Did you know that approximately 344 million people worldwide are affected by dry eye disease (DED)? According to the American Academy of Ophthalmology (AAO), this condition is more common than you might think. From a clinician’s perspective, understanding the prevalence of dry eye helps us be prepared to encounter dry eye diagnosis on a daily basis. We are dedicated to staying informed and providing the best care possible. Patients, knowing that you’re not alone in this can be reassuring, perhaps you’re 1/11 patients with dry eye symptoms. The AAO also indicates that indirect costs of DED due to lost productivity amounts to over $73 billion in the USA alone, equating to around $15,500 per person! During your next eye examination, make sure to ask your clinician if you have any signs of dry eyes (even if you don’t have symptoms!). Repeated intravitreal injections do not hasten a decrease in retinal nerve fiber layer (RNFL) thickness, nor other signs of glaucoma progression in eyes with glaucoma spectrum diseases, according to research published in Clinical Ophthalmology (Dove Medical Press). Intravitreal anti-vascular endothelial growth factor (anti-VEGF) injections can, however, raise intraocular pressure (IOP). 🌟 Excited to Share Our Latest Publication! 🌟 Thrilled to announce the publication of our big data study on intraocular pressure and gonioscopic findings in primary angle-closure disease in India. This research emphasizes the critical role of gonioscopy and the importance of measuring post-dilated intraocular pressure (IOP) in routine practice to identify at-risk cases early. It was indeed a tough journey, with many rejections along the way, but perseverance paid off! A huge thank you to my esteemed co-authors, Anthony Vipin Das and Sirisha Senthil, for their unwavering collaboration and expertise. This study wouldn’t have been possible without our combined efforts. Together, we aim to contribute to better outcomes in glaucoma care. For those interested in the details, the publication is now available in the latest issue of the International Journal of Ophthalmology. Let’s continue pushing the boundaries of ophthalmic research! 👁️🔬 #Ophthalmology #GlaucomaResearch #BigData #AngleClosure #Gonioscopy #PostDilatedIOP
