Brand rules all. To be uncurious is to fail. Balance the Force: science and voodoo. Commerce and creative intersectionality. Commune with the masters. Avaritia malum.
It is absolutely necessary that the monopolistic racket of Ticketmaster/Live Nation Entertainment be dismantled by this important effort of the U.S. Department of Justice. Especially when they’re the only entity powerful enough to do it right, with teeth, and not as likely to give in or be held hostage by their predatory practices as we have seen at local levels. (For example, here in Grand Rapids with the recent announcement by the Grand Rapids/Kent County CAA that yet another venue would be held hostage to a deal with Live Nation.) It won’t be overnight, but the long game is looking much better for disrupting their many cheat-to-win tactics, and freeing Kent County and others from the stranglehold this cartel has held in live events for far too long. If you’d like a great basic summary, this NPR update is a good option.

This morning I won tickets to a Train concert from a radio station. I LOVE entering and winning random contests. Over the years, people ask: "How do you win so many contests?" My answer: I enter. Winning a contest is kind of like being in a sales role. It takes: -Persistence -Observation -Motivation -Maybe a stroke of luck -The mindset to shoot your shot The best thing that can happen if you ask for a sale: You close the sale. The best thing that can happen if you enter a contest: You win. The worst thing that can happen if you ask for a sale and they say "no": They say "no". The worst thing that can happen if you enter a contest and don't win. You don't win. Your ego make take a bit of a tumble but the day will still go on and you'll have plenty more chances. Some fun things I've won as a result of entering contests: -Tickets to 3 New England Patriots games (the photo is from when I won amazing seats to a Patriots games + unlimited Budweiser at a tailgating event. Thanks Anheuser-Busch!) -A mattress -Tickets to New Kids on the Block, Pentatonix, Train x 2 + a signed ukulele, Echosmith -Tickets to some fun things to do in Maine: Portland Sea Dogs, Portland Symphony Orchestra, a Maine Beer Festival What are some things you've won as a result of shooting your shot and entering contests?!

We know it's very early to be thinking about Christmas , but if you're planning to hold a festive event this year, such as a community celebration, a lights switch-on or a Christmas fayre/market, you may need a Public Entertainment Licence (PEL) or a Market Operator’s Licence. Whether you're an individual, business, local group or Community Council, it's important you find out about the licensing requirements before planning any event. Applications for PELs should be made at least 12 weeks before the proposed event. Applications for Market Operators’ Licences should be made at least eight weeks before the proposed event. For links to more info and forms, see below (first comment).

New Post: Every EGOT Winner & What They Won For - https://lnkd.in/g_x3-RZd - When Benj Pasek and Justin Paul won a Primetime Emmy on night 2 of the Creative Arts Emmys on Sunday (Sept. 8, 2024), they became EGOTs, having won at least one Emmy, Grammy, Oscar and Tony in competition. They won their Emmy for outstanding music and lyrics for a song they co-wrote for Only Murders in the Building. They co-wrote the song “Which of the Pickwick Triplets Did It?” with another songwriting team, Marc Shaiman and Scott Wittman. Only 21 people have achieved EGOT status, which has become the ultimate mic-drop move in show business. If the original idea of becoming an EGOT meant going to the very top in four distinct fields of entertainment, shortcuts have materialized to getting there, which has made the achievement more commonplace and less worthy of awe. The Tonys award producer credits far too liberally. Whoopi Goldberg and Jennifer Hudson won their Tony Awards for being among a platoon of producers of a winning Broadway show. Hudson was one of more than 40 producers on A Strange Loop. Her participation was announced the day before the show began previews in April 2022. It won the Tony two months later. And not all EGOT awards are equally easy or hard to get. There are currently just 23 categories at the Oscars and 26 at the Tony Awards. Far more awards are handed out at the Grammys (94 categories this year) and the Primetime Emmys (a whopping 123 categories this year, spread out over three nights). And that doesn’t even count the various other Emmy shows, such as the Daytime Emmys and the Children’s and Family Emmys. We mentioned earlier that the definition of EGOT is having won at least one Emmy, Grammy, Oscar and Tony in competition. There’s some debate about that. Six more individuals — Barbra Streisand, Liza Minnelli, James Earl Jones, Harry Belafonte, Quincy Jones and director/producer Frank Marshall — qualify if you count honorary or special awards. However, most EGOT experts don’t count non-competitive awards. The whole point is to have won the awards in competition. Here’s a comprehensive rundown on the competitive winners’ road to EGOT. - #news #business #world #jobs #school #passion
