Great article by Jackson Casey
“For far too long, we’ve attempted to fight our political battles with no real understanding of the institutional power backing each side. Because of our lack of diligence, the Left has managed to carry out its “long march” through those institutions largely unnoticed.” - Jackson Casey https://lnkd.in/gxyM6xqF

As 2024’s National Reconciliation Week ends, we are deeply aware of the criticisms surrounding performative reconciliation actions. We're determined to ensure our efforts toward reconciliation are genuine and impactful. Our ongoing journey with our Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP) is driven by intentional actions and measurable progress, rather than symbolic gestures. The last week has been a powerful reminder of why that approach is important. As we continue toward true reconciliation efforts, we strive to listen more, learn continuously, and leverage our platform to amplify First Nations voices, recognising the significant power businesses hold in shaping societal norms and justice. We do this in a variety of ways, including attending and promoting relevant events, providing all Cubies Arrilla Indigenous Consulting cultural competency training, partnering with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander suppliers, and encouraging deep conversations amongst our team (last week, our team used the Aretha Brown’s “Decolonise Your Self” ally resource cards to prompt important conversations – get them https://lnkd.in/gvdkj7m4). We know there is more we can do, and we’re committed to continuing to examine, diversify and improve the ways we work toward reconciliation. As we move forward, we invite our network to hold us accountable, engage with us in this critical conversation, and join us in making reconciliation a continuous commitment to justice and equity.

Co Founder of The Fair Job Initiative, removing politics from the workplace, restoring harmony, teamwork and productivity.
With the current Post Office and Blood scandals rocking the nation, it is becoming increasingly apparent that we have created a bureaucratic class, of which many of us are members, which appears to be both colossally self entitled and at the same time, refuses to take accountability. How has this culture become the norm in our institutions and large employers? You need to go back to 1958 and Michael Young's essay: The Rise of the Meritocracy to understand how the emerging professional class has become the establishment and is now a nomenklatura every bit as mono-cultured, orthodox, restrictive, stifling and self perpetuating as that of the former USSR. It is imperative that, as a society, we break this culture up, that we restore social mobility through opportunity. The opportunity for organisations which can deliver this is there for the taking. https://lnkd.in/eRhPJmhY
Will the bureaucrats ever be held responsible? Don't hold your breath...

First there was the rise of JD Vance and now the President of the very powerful Teamsters union has endorsed the Republicans - and more so, Trumpism. Things are rapidly changing in American politics and society - and by extension this will filter out everywhere else as well. There is a conservative turn in society (even this morning on RNZ Chris Hipkins was again speaking the language of 'bread and butter' social and economic conservatism for class ['hard-working people'] politics versus identity politics). Expect to see this 'pro-worker' conservatism to amp up in NZ politics over the rest of this term. Will this be the end of 40 years of neoliberalism here in NZ? ( Remember, identity politics is the neoliberalism of the New Left via Foucault).

Keir Starmer's victory marks a pivotal moment in British politics, carrying with it the weighty responsibility of restoring public trust. As Britain stands at a crossroads, Starmer's leadership offers an opportunity to address long-standing challenges and reshape the political landscape. His success will hinge on his ability to navigate complex issues, from economic recovery to social reforms, while maintaining transparency and accountability. This transition presents not just a change in leadership, but a chance for Britain to redefine its role on the global stage and reinvigorate its democratic institutions. As we watch this new chapter unfold, it's clear that the path ahead is as challenging as it is crucial for the future of UK politics.
