Your voice matters, and animals need it now. 💕 For far too long, Australia has lacked an effective strategy to keep pace with evolving standards of animal welfare. The proposed renewal of the AAWS aims to establish a cohesive national framework grounded in scientific evidence and community expectations. While the Department acknowledges shortcomings within the existing system, the current draft falls short of addressing the systemic issues plaguing animal welfare in Australia. As part of the consultation process, the Government has provided a series of questions it considers critical for renewing the AAWS. You can use our pre-filled template or refer to the suggested responses below when preparing your submission. For greater impact, we strongly recommend you tailor your response to personalise your views. You can take action here- https://lnkd.in/gxYPaTMM

Join me today to learn how animal welfare professionals at every level can navigate the complexities of communicating bravely at a time when logical fallacies are at the heart of most every conversation and conflict. Thanks to Jill Tucker, CAWA CalAnimals (California Animal Welfare Association) for hosting! It's not too late to register, and if you can't make it today, you will have access to the recording to watch when you can! https://lnkd.in/gxDwgKzF. Several hundred people have already registered and it's going to be a fun and highly interactive hour. I promise you'll walk away with at least three new strategies and probably lots more! Our starting point for the session are the most common communications mistakes I see in animal welfare, which are: 1. Falling into one of the logical fallacy traps 2. Defensive or reactive communication 3. Being unwilling to reconsider your point of view 4. Communicating in anger, especially in writing 5. Punishing or ‘canceling’ vocal critics 6. Under-communicating or failing to communicate entirely 7. Neglecting to seek help or thank the helpers 8. Oversimplifying a complex situation 9. Failing to keep key stakeholders in the loop 10. Speaking to media before writing down and practicing your key points Hope to see you there and we'll share the guideline document immediately following the training!

One of the many benefits of increased transparency in your institution is having a better relationship with the public. Publishing information about the experience of animals used in science can stimulate public discussion, raise awareness, and improve collaboration. Giving Canadians the opportunity to voice their opinions and inviting their feedback can foster trust and a sense of shared ownership and can also lead to improving practices in animal welfare. #transparencyinscience

1moGlue traps are terrible, not 'humane': they catch animals - not only mice, by the way! - and make them suffer as they slowly starve. 😢 Use 'live traps' instead.
