Rest isnt something I put a lot of value in and Corporate America where I’ve spent most of my career reinforced that belief.
Then while I was training for a marathon, I experienced a knee and foot injury. Wasn’t bad enough to operate so what was the option? REST! It drove me nuts. 🤯 Surely with all the advances in medicine there has to be something more we can do other than rest?! This is when I learned that resting isn’t the same thing as doing nothing.
There are lots of benefits to rest…here are five of them:
1️⃣ Improved Cognitive Function: Rest allows your brain to recover and process information, leading to improvemented focus, creativity, and problem-solving abilities.
2️⃣ Physical Recovery: Rest is essential for muscle repair, reducing inflammation, and restoring energy levels, especially after physical exertion.
3️⃣ Enhanced Emotional Well-being: Taking time to rest can help reduce stress and anxiety, promoting a more balanced mood and better emotional resilience.
4️⃣ Boosted Immune System: Adequate rest helps strengthen your immune system, making you more resistant to illnesses and infections.
5️⃣ Increased Productivity: By allowing yourself regular breaks and sufficient sleep, you avoid burnout, maintain motivation, and can ultimately achieve more in less time.
It seems counterintuitive that when we are busy or feeling stuck the answer might be to take a break but science and experience shows otherwise.
