Sharing my views on key Plenary Session featuring Rt. Hon. Wes Streeting MP speech RCGP Annual Conference and Exhibition #rcgpac Firstly proud to see Sheffield GP and friend Andy Hilton, sharing the stage, and one of the 4 GPs selected to illustrate innovative and embitious work already happening in primary care. They illustrated how much GPs care about the responsibilities they have, and above all want to create health creating opportunities for all. But to focus on Wes. So often you listen to politicians and they say nothing really. They professionally navigate tricky issues, giving answers they think most popular with their audience. At least that's what we've been used to lately. It was refreshing to feel like we were listening to someone who is prepared to acknowledge and take on the tough issues ahead of us in the NHS. Key take homes for me, he recognises: -Primary Care offers the best value in the NHS, and its savvy to protect teams and invest here. - Benefits of working in communities (neighbourhoods) and of horizontal integration between specialists and generalist teams, with equal parity. -Needing transparent and inclusive decision making about trade offs between investing in health services, and tackling wider determinants of health. -He is committed to listening, and having robust debate.....his previous swipe at partnership model was a deliberate provocation to stimulate engagement around contentious issues. I felt optimistic. He spoke like he deeply understands the nuances of our health challenges. We were reminded he spent much of his pre MP life in leadership roles in voluntary sector. Only one backward reference to Tory legacy, much more forward looking to how we collaborate as teams to properly build for the longterm. This feels to me like brave leadership, with moral intent.

We're in Colorado Springs for the 2024 IAEM Conference in Colorado Springs. We kicked it off yesterday with the IAEM-USA Healthcare Caucus Symposium learning about some of the great work this group has accomplished. We closed it out at Trinity Brewing for IPA's for those who write IAP's where Mark VanDyke hosted a discussion about some great beers and solid Action Plans. Collaboration in Action: The LHGP Consortium Workshop The LHGP Consortium recently came together in the vibrant city of Bristol for an inspiring workshop filled with progress to date, ideas, and a clear focus on the road ahead! The workshop, skillfully organised by the Consortium’s administrative team Cheryl Routley and Ben Choy, set the stage for identifying strategies to ensure meaningful collaboration and innovation throughout the project. Kicking off the day, Prof. Anna Gilmore, Consortium Director, welcomed everyone with energy and vision for the journey forward. Here’s a quick snapshot of the highlights: Insightful Presentations ·      Dr Jennie Leggat and Dr Rachel Barry shared preliminary findings from our systems mapping work and how to translate this into research with local authorities. ·      Dr Anna Brook and Dr Tania Griffin walked us through the strategy for identifying and recruiting Local Authority study sites. ·      Dr Amber Van Den Akker and Dr Andrea Serna Castano gave us a masterclass on coordinating and managing engagement with Local Authorities. Group Discussions That Matter - Following the presentations, Consortium members engaged in informal group discussions to discuss key issues and  questions: ·      Research vs Communication Networks: What are the differences, and how do they influence our approaches and channels? ·      Language Matters: The importance of brand positioning and communication when engaging with Local Authorities was a key takeaway. After all, the right words can drive the paradigm shift we need around Commercial Determinants of Health (CDOH). The energy and ideas shared at the workshop set the tone for exciting next steps. Teamwork and collaboration are central to what we do, and it was fantastic to see them all in action. We successfully hosted our first calibration session of the year, bringing together over 100 clinical and governance surveyors from 20 countries across all five AACI America regions. Participants hailed from North and South America, Europe, the Middle East, India, Southeast Asia, and Japan, representing a truly global perspective. The session focused on clinical privileging, a topic often misunderstood as merely a bureaucratic requirement. In reality, clinical privileging is one of the most crucial elements of patient safety, with treatment outcomes frequently hinging on its proper implementation. The session provided a valuable platform for sharing diverse experiences and approaches from various countries, showcasing how different hospitals address this vital standard. This session was thoughtfully organized by our dedicated Dr. Anshu Jhamnani and Nikita Gosavi as part of AACI's continuous education program for surveyors, and we extend our heartfelt thanks to them for their outstanding efforts.
