Our TeamBlue volunteers recently spent the day helping the Chattanooga Area Food Bank prepare donated items by labeling, organizing and stacking canned goods for distribution.
Through our annual food drive in June, our employees also raised nearly $10,000 for food banks across Tennessee, helping keep shelves stocked during the busy summer months. #WeAreBCBST

Agreed! Food insecurity is a real problem that affects people all over the state. Unfortunately, the answer can't simply be "visit a food bank near you".
We need to talk about why there are food deserts all over our state.
We need to talk about why black and brown families suffer disproportionately from food insecurity.
We need to talk about why (in many cases) college students experience food insecurity at levels twice as high as the general population.
Then, after we've talked about it, we need to do something about it. Something real and substantive.
What we need is justice. Food justice for all!
As we get closer to the holidays, DHEC realizes that food insecurity is a real issue for many families in our state. With the help of Clemson University, we have developed a food bank resource that shows food bank locations throughout the state where food can be received and donated.

Last week, my family spent a couple of days up north helping my husband, Don Riedthaler and the Ignite Northwest team, in their company’s test kitchen make and package meals for hungry kids. Between Don and I having worked decades in the restaurant industry, owning a restaurant of our own and having Don (aka Dad) as the primary cook at home, we have an abundance of food surrounding us, especially around the holidays. It felt so good (thanks to the powerful happiness hormone, oxytocin) to spent time in service to others. It’s no wonder companies invest in team building where bonds can be formed. Though, upon reflection, the experience of helping others (for me) trumped some of the more prescriptive team building activities I’ve witnessed or participated in (karaoke bars, and escape rooms come to mind). Ignite Northwest prides ourselves in doing our part and giving back to our community, and this year we partnered up with Shawn Walton and #StLeosParrish with a commitment of 100 prepared meals…but little did we know that when we asked some of our local business partners like Jeff Winter w/CMA, who donated $500! and Jason Wirth with Bargreen Ellingson who donated a SUV full of to-go packaging and apple juice, we would be pushed to make more than 100 meals.
Inspired by Jeff’s donation, I personally matched his gift and we now had $1,000 towards to purchase of food and supplies to make over 300 MEALS!!!
A special shout out to the team at Ignite, specifically Ryan Devereaux who donated two days of his time to help make these delicious meals, and my wife Janell Payne and our family who also pitched in to help out!

As the weather continues to wreak havoc in the Western Cape and is forecast to intensify, our Shoprite Mobile Soup Kitchens are on the ground serving warm meals to thousands of people in Strand, Khayelitsha, Philippi and Sir Lowry’s Pass Village.
Customers wishing to support relief efforts can donate as little as R5 to the #ActForChange Fund at the till point in all Shoprite, Checkers and Usave supermarkets. All donations collected will go to Gift of the Givers Foundation in support of relief efforts nationwide.

Is anyone preparing to do some spring cleaning before May comes? 🙌 While you're dusting down the shelves, wiping down the counters, and sweeping up the floors, don't forget to work through those old/unused/worn out items that are ready to move out the door.
One of the easiest ways to declutter any room is to have three bins—one for things to sell, another for donations, and a third for trash.
Oh, and don't forget to grab those bags of items you were supposed to donate last year but have been taking up room in your garage instead!
