Congratulations to Aaron Scott, one of our Senior Electrical Designers, on achieving his Lighting Certification from the NCQLP! This accomplishment showcases his knowledge, understanding, and ability to effectively apply lighting principles and techniques. Aaron highlights the significance of this certification, noting that “lighting design is often a reaction to an existing design, which can result in a less-than-ideal product. By collaborating with architects, I aim to ensure a harmonious design that brings peace of mind to the client.” Aaron looks forward to meeting client needs in terms of design expectations and budget, and applying his skills across a broader scope such as interior, exterior, landscape, highway, and parking lot lighting. Well done, Aaron!

Working with certain architects is always a pleasure—especially those who give you the freedom to explore ideas and collaborate closely to achieve the best lighting effects. In my opinion, when architects and interior designers take the time to engage with the lighting designer, discussing the intent, concept, and intricate details of the project, the results are significantly enhanced. Brainstorming lighting solutions with architects often leads to extraordinary and creative outcomes." This version has smoother flow, clearer structure, and more emphasis on collaboration. Would love to hear your side on this!

𝐖𝐡𝐲 𝐄𝐥𝐞𝐯𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬 𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐢𝐦𝐩𝐨𝐫𝐭𝐚𝐧𝐭? Exterior Elevations are essential components of architectural and construction drawings, serving unique and critical purposes in the design and building process, while interior elevations provide details for design and remodeling purposes. All elevations provide a comprehensive understanding of a building's design, ensuring that all stakeholders — from architects and builders to clients and regulators — have a clear and accurate representation of the final structure. The coordination of interior design selections and the integration of architectural, mechanical, electrical, landscape, and civil elements are critical in every project, but it’s particularly vital in purpose-built rentals. As construction and operating costs continue to rise, every detail must be carefully considered to ensure the viability of these developments.
At The GeoFocus Group, we recognize that the coordination of various disciplines—architectural, mechanical, electrical, landscape, and civil—is fundamental to the success of any project. However, the details that shape the form and function of interior spaces are equally critical. Interior design drawings play a pivotal role in ensuring the seamless integration of elements such as lighting layouts, reflected ceiling plans, and other key details. These drawings guide the placement of light switches, lighting fixtures (both ceiling and wall-mounted), HVAC grills, and more. By meticulously coordinating these elements, we ensure that every aspect of the project aligns with the overall design vision, enhancing both aesthetics and functionality. When is the best time to hire an Interior Designer? While the common notion is to bring your Interior Designer on board after the Architect has completed the house design, the optimal approach is actually at the project's inception. Collaboration between the Client, Architect, Structural and Mechanical Engineers, Interior Designer, Builder, Landscape Architect and other associated professionals from the outset, ensures the most thoughtful and cohesive design. Waiting until after the house design is finalized, including structural and mechanical systems, limits the interior design potential and may lead to costly adjustments. Additionally, retaining your Interior Designer after your Builder has provided a construction budget is somewhat problematic in that monetary allowances for finish material costs have been provided without selections ever having been made. Often allowances provided have been under-estimated to meet the clients overall budget, and as a result either the price of the project will increase or the client will be stuck with lesser value finishes, both of which result in an unhappy client. Approaching the design of your home as a holistic endeavor not only ensures the most cohesive design, but additionally the most thoughtful integration of systems, and practical budget analysis. #interiordesign #builder #construction
