AI Innovator & Practitioner, C-Suite & Board Advisor, LinkedIn Top AI Voice | Taking AI from potential to profitable reality
The hot new job: "Head of AI" But what should a head of AI know and do? What makes an ideal candidate? The article below provides a nice overview of some of the key considerations. I think we'll also increasingly see "Head of AI Transformation" titles to indicate that this goes well beyond the application of AI tech. To me, the best fit for "Head of AI" positions will be individuals who are quite technical but equally fluent in the language of business value, execution, and strategy. Unicorn Wishlist Top 10: - Has built models hands-on and understands the meaning behind the five-dollar technical terms (but doesn't have to be a PhD-grade, NeurIPS-presenting code wizard) - Can make a compelling, Hollywood-grade pitch for a capability, solution, project, and even a 2-week data science sprint - Has good proficiency in enabling technologies like cloud and on-premise platforms, MLOps, LLMOps, data engineering - Can set the governance and risk-management agenda - Knows how to communicate with people across the hierarchy and technical knowledge spectrum - Has strong commercial instincts, ideally some enterprise sales experience - Is adept at eliciting unstated needs - Has a finely tuned BS detector for vendor and partner conversations - Feels passionate about making things elegantly simple without drifting into the simplistic - Enjoys leading people #HeadofAI #AIJobs #EnterpriseAI #AIStrategy https://lnkd.in/egyEFqGF

If you are struggling to succeed at AI transformation at an Enterprise scale, note Bjorn's important point here with the article: I can personally attest to the success of my "Head of AI" roles being attributed to these characteristics.

💡 AI, Data Scientist Consultant | Helping companies create value by leveraging AI and Big Data Technologies 🚀 | Data Educator | EN | FR | SP
Managers and business leaders: stop assuming the data science team knows how to solve business problems! With the rush to adopt AI, I've seen managers hiring data scientists/ML engineers to develop new AI technologies in their companies. They want the data scientist team to come up with use cases for using ChatGPT and other AI tools in the company. But, in reality, this approach does not work and is risky! Let me tell you why: ✅ Whereas data scientists/ML engineers can uncover AI opportunities in the company, in general, they are hard to sell to upper management. Many of these initiatives happen without the sponsorship of the leadership and get lost in corporate politics. ✅ Data scientists have, in general, a limited view of the global company's business challenges. Therefore, it is unlikely to end up with propositions solving real problems with real impact on the business. I've seen tons of DS initiatives going to the trash because of this. Projects that finish after two years of dev and at the end no one uses. ✅ The data science team has no visibility into the company's budget constraints. They can come up with unfeasible propositions that are way too expensive or risky, ending up with rejected ideas and frustrations. This being said, business leaders and managers have a crucial role in driving the AI initiatives in the company! The data science team is there to support them, informing them what is possible or not with AI and helping them to execute their vision. This is the power of teamwork! Companies are talking about hiring a Chief AI Officer. Abhi talks about this trend in this video #ai
One question being asked at companies - Do we need a Chief AI Officer? What are the requirements for the same? How does a Chief AI Officer work with the CTO, CIO, CDO, Chief Data Scientist, etc? We hired a Sr VP AI for a Global organization, which is around 1.2 billion, 3 years ago. And today, he is a CTO. It also shows a career path that one can take. Another Product Manager we hired for Simulation products is the Chief Data Officer. When hiring, companies have to look for technology acumen (supervised learning, unsupervised learning, computer vision, machine vision, RWE for healthcare, GenAI, etc) and also skills around Stakeholder alignment, Change Management, and the ability to create a long-term strategy around AI. If you are looking, talk to us and we can share our thoughts on the market situation around AI today. #ai #artificialintelligence #chiefaiofficer #CAIO

This is the first time I’ve seen a job posting for a role using AI in UX research. I know of a number of startups, platforms, and internal teams working on AI UXR solutions, but I haven’t noticed any publicly posted roles until now. I’m surprised to see it coming from an agency. The big question in my mind has always been, where will the teams that win this race get the training data? I assume an agency won’t have access to much data, as client data would be off limits. My hunch has been that the first strong AI solutions will come from an in-house team like Google, which obviously has the engineering capability and has access to tons of high quality training data from the huge number of studies they have run. They also have a vested interest in making digital experiences better in general—see their voluminous thought leadership, for example. I’ve also seen and heard that some of the startups (e.g. Genway AI, co-led by ex-Googler Natan V.) are making great progress. (See Alec Levin’s brief post today, which I will link to below, and Savina Hawkins' recent talk at Advancing Resaerch, for examples.) I know some of these startups are using training data provided by in house partners. I could also imagine that some of the platforms have permissive data use policies, at least for their smaller, less-savvy customers. Those datasets could be huge, but perhaps not of the highest quality. Public job postings lift the curtain a bit on what’s happening in this space, so please comment or DM me if you see any others in the wild! https://lnkd.in/e7tkRQn3 #uxresearch #userresearch #designresearch #usabilitytesting #researchAI #AI #UXRjobs

Hiring has traditionally relied on human judgment and intuition, but with the emergence of AI, it has undergone significant transformation. Almost all hiring products have integrated some form of AI within the past 9-10 months. Despite its increasing influence, AI continues to serve as a complementary tool, enriching rather than supplanting the human element in hiring decisions. Fractional Talent Consultant helping early stage and ambitious tech companies hire great people across Product / Engineering / Design throughout the UK & EU.
Is everyone just kicking back and waiting for AI to take over? I’m struggling to think of another reason why hiring is still causing so many frustrations. Candidate’s aren’t happy that’s for sure. And whenever I speak to a hiring manager there’s always room for improvement (perhaps an understatement). It's a problem that literally every working person on the planet has come into contact with. Is AI the answer? Or just another cog in the wheel that will keep spinning as long as companies need people to work? #AIhiring #techhiring #softwareengineering #AI
