Blood, Urine, and now Saliva. When should drug testing be conducted? Testing may occur pre-employment, randomly during employment, after workplace accidents, or if there is reasonable suspicion of drug use. What substances are typically tested for? Commonly tested substances include marijuana, cocaine, opiates, amphetamines, and PCP, although specific substances can vary by the policy. What are the legal considerations for drug testing in the workplace? Employers must comply with federal and state laws regarding drug testing, including the Americans with Disabilities Act and the Occupational Safety and Health Administration. Scientific study about Drug testing in the workplace I was curious if there was evidence for drug testing improving productivity. I found a research article that pointed to many flawed studied and some surprising conclusions. https://lnkd.in/etctA2GC However, as depicted in Figure 7.2, 76 percent of those who tested positive at preemployment had not been fired after 3 years, compared with 86 percent of those testing negative. This represents a 10 percent absolute difference between groups in retention rates, which appears to be less drastic than the reported 77 percent higher rate of firing.
