Spatiotemporal genomic profiling of intestinal metaplasia reveals clonal dynamics of gastric cancer progression On the cover: Huang et al. perform spatiotemporal genomic profiling of intestinal metaplasia (IM) samples from a prospective clinical study and reveal clonal dynamics in the evolution from IM to gastric cancer. The waveforms in the cover image represent the normal epithelial lining of the stomach, which comprises undulating glandular formations. The occurrence of IM (red areas) is associated with inflammation, microbial communities, and increased risk of gastric cancer. *Multi-cancer early detection tests* Multi-cancer early detection (MCED) is a new type of screening technique that uses various machine learning algorithms and advanced genomic science for detection. MCED test has a positive predictive accuracy of 75.5% to detect cancer. This has been examined on 323 cases and the test was able to diagnose 244 cases. MCED test has the potential to find more than one cancer from a single sample of blood. Blood samples are analysed for certain pieces of DNA or proteins that can be shielded from cancer cells. If these are found, it is evident that the person may be suffering from any of the cancer types. Though MCED tests have been developed to screen various types of cancer, they aren't yet approved by the FDA. Many companies are following certain rules to perform MCED and trying to approach FDA for the approval. MCED tests can't replace the current tests which are available for cancer detection but they can be considered as a supplement for the same. Microbiome is an efficient diagnostic tool for Oral and Throat Cancers: In order to develop a more accurate diagnostic tool for cancer patients, researchers at Viome began studying how the microbiome changed, a collection of all microbes that naturally exist on our bodies and within us, as well as their genes. As a result of earlier research, people with oral or throat cancers have a different oral flora to those without cancer. 88 specific changes in gene expression were identified in people with oral and throat cancer, as well as 182 unique genetic features in their bacteria. The AI-based home screening test to detect oral and throat cancers correctly identified 90% of samples from people with cancer and 95% of samples from people without cancer, indicating very low false negative or false positive rates. #cancer #oncology #microbiome #diagnostics #innovation #drugdiscovery #medicalsciences #medicine #drugdevelopment #ai #artificialintelligence

Smoking is the leading cause of lung cancer, responsible for approximately 85% of all cases. Lung cancer is often diagnosed at advanced stages when treatment options are limited.
